  1. Oh I've wanted Unspoken for ages, but I was rejected (several weeks ago!) by The Site Which Shall Not Be Named.

    Enjoy!

    1. Right. I'm feeling really good about the decision to quit that site. I might be able to use the library again! Besides, I never get to them pre pub date anyway.

  2. I watch your videos hoping for a surprise appearance of Percy. Of course, I also get interesting bits of news. I didn't know Laura Wiess has another book out!

    1. I will talk to him and see if I can get him to make a cameo!

  3. All these reviews and people with Unspoken in their mailboxes makes me hover even harder over the one click purchase button on Amazon. Sigh.

  4. OMG, I didn't realize you got 40 books while shopping with your mom. That is awesome! You must tell me what you got...immediately. Why didn't I just ask you yesterday? haha

Ahh, we do fail at book club! I really wish we could make it work, too.

    1. I can't remember what I got. Soon!

Maybe if we set a date we HAD to finish by?

  5. Unspoken is so wonderful! And I keep hearing nice things about Tessa Gratton's books! What a good book week!

  6. Yay for Unspoken! I really loved that book. I hope you enjoy it Christina! You'll have to let me know how The Blood Keepers is. I'm interested in reading it because I liked the first book, but I've been really disappointed so far this year in almost all the sequels I have read. I'm scared!!

    1. I still haven't read the first one, so it will be a while...

  7. Yummy yummy books, Christina! I'll just have to wait for your reviews as usual to decide what to read and what to discard from my wishlist :) Enjoy your goodies!

  8. Yay for book club!!! I was so sad I couldn't go this month. Especially since I won't be able to go to any of the rest this year. :(

And holy awesomeness, the Brigid Kemmerer series rocked my world. lol I liked SPARK better than STORM, but the first one is still really good! And yeah, I'm not a huge fan of the covers either. But it's funny you mention THE OUTSIDERS, because the book sorta reminded me of that book...

  9. You are too cute in your videos, I love watching them! Ok, where to start. Firstly HOLY CRAP, you got 40 books from Goodwill? That's...yeah, that's a lot...and yes, I'm dying to know what they are!

Secondly, STORM IS AMAZING and you just have to ignore the cover. There is another better cover knocking around on the internets but I think it's Australian.

Worst. Vampire. Ever. Sounds like fun and I remember having Take A Bow on my wish list but I haven't got it yet so I'll be looking out for your giveaway!

The BloodKeeper is a companion novel to Blood Magic (not quite a sequel) so I guess you could read it as a standalone but there might be some references in it that make more sense if you've read Blood Magic?

I just won a copy of Unspoken and I'm looking forward to reading it as it will be my first Sarah Rees Brennan book (although I have her others on my shelves) and it's set in England, right? So of COURSE you will love it ;)

    1. Awwww, thanks! I think it will probably be a couple weeks before I can share those books sadly, since I'm going on vacation next weekend and I don't know if I'll have time to get them. I guess I could go to my parents' house beforehand with my laptop and film a vid there to post while I'm on vacay and don't have a haul. THIS IS A PLAN.

Yay! Storm! The Australian cover is a bit better, but their books are SO EXPENSIVE.

I prefer to read things in order so Blood Magic first!

Yup. Because I desperately want to be a Brit. :)

  10. Yay! Happy birthday! And lol to guys in the background looking like extras from The Outsiders.

I thought Judging a Book By Its Lover was pretty fun, although the better read you are, the more you'll like it (I suspect).

    1. Well, they do, though, right?

Oh cool. I love books that make me feel smart. I hope I've read the right things!

  11. FORTY BOOKS?!?! YOU CRAZY WOMAN! I would love to see that haul!

On the other hand, I also have a huge pile of books that I don't have a bookcase for. I built a bookcase in sculpture class though...like a boss. But then my teacher put it on display (I would say it's because I'm so awesome, but I just think everyone else left before he could ask them to leave their projects) so unless I get a sledge hammer and break the display I won't be able to use it. *twiddles thumbs* So now I have a pile of books on my dresser like Jenga.

I'm super curious about The Blood Keepers, because I still think the cover is atrocious. Not only is it boring, but the color scheme...ugh. I thought it was an indie book for the longest time.

Ah! and Judging a Boo by its Lover looks delicious. And because I do judge people by the books they read (which is why I often observe everyone who picks up Fifty Shades of Grey at the bookstore.)

AND MY LIBRARY HAS ORDINARY BEAUTY! I didn't know MTV had books though. O_O

    1. I think I'll film that haul post this week and schedule it for while I'm on vacay. So it's coming.

That sucks. I'd be like I NEED THAT BOOKCASE.

The cover is awful. But the one for the first book wasn't great either. It's weird though that it doesn't seem to match either of the covers for the first book.

BAHAHA Judging a Boo by Its Lover. That would totally be a book by Tom Haverford. Lol.

I think I knew that, but I didn't know they had good books.

    2. YOU'RE GOING ON VACATION? *O* WHERE?

For some reason it feels like I was fated not to be able to pick up that bookcase, every time I wanted to pick it up, the door would be locked. hmph. Someone is plotting against me!

I just looked up the cover of the first book. You're right, it doesn't look too pretty either and doesn't match...at all. O_O

FUDGE! ME AND MY TYPOS! And my impeccable ability to come up with awesome website/book names because of it! I have some talent right here.

True, I would imagine they'd only have books by Lauren Conrad or something.

    3. Florida! Not Hawaii, unfortunately.

Yup. I'm kind of tempted to make a list of authors who are clearly loathed by their cover artists.

Or MY awesome ability to come up with great ideas from it. lol.

Ugh. I could have bought one of Lauren Conrad's books like TWELVE times on the Goodwill trip. I laughed at her every time.

    4. Shoot! Oh well, Florida is close enough. And you could go to Disney World, if anyone above 20 can still go shamelessly. Unlike Hawaii, where amusement parks are extinct. They had a circus once, but I think they cancelled since the elephant escaped and started marching through the streets (literally. it was on the news.)

I often wonder just how much input an author can have, or does it depend on their reputation. I was reading Penguin 75, a collection of Penguin covers in celebration of Penguin's 75th anniversary and featured commentary from cover designers and the author...and some of them can go through multiple rounds of disapproval by the author, yet some covers pass even though the author completely disapproves.

We should just join forces and become an awesome name generator!

If Snooki can publish something (assuming she doesn't have a ghost writer,) I'm convinced the standards are lowered once you have celebrity status. Maybe once you're a celebrity, your editors won't dare to correct you.

On the hand, I have a negative view on ghostwriters.

    5. Well, I don't know that I will be going to Disney World because it costs ALL of the monies, but I would totes go without shame. Poor Hawaii! That is a sad thing.

The author/cover thing does seem to vary. I would seriously want control over that. Like veto power or something.

Agreed on both counts (celebrity 'authors' and ghostwriters).
