My Life in YA Book Titles

Yet again, I've been stalking Jamie's blog, The Perpetual Page-Turner and she has yet another awesome survey thing, and I want to be part of the fun. This time, we're talking about your teen selves with book titles. I expect this to be difficult but SO. MUCH. FUN. Anyway, check out Jamie's original post here.

How would you describe your 16 year old self? The Off Season  - High school was not a good time for me. Haha.
When You Looked Into The Mirror What Did You SeeTen Things I Hate About Me  - Self-loathing, etc.
Your 16 your old self outlook on life/motto: All I Want Is Everything - If I just tried hard enough, surely everyone would appreciate me and life would be perfect
How You Think People Would Describe Your Personality: User UnfriendlyI can be a lot to take
Describe An Insecurity In High School: The DUFF - What friends I had were generally prettier, so what if I was just there to make them look better by comparison?
Describe Your Worst Trait As A Teen: Hate List - Yeah, I pretty much hated everyone else as much as I hated myself.
Describe the contents of your diary/journal: Sucks to Be Me - Endless raging/wallowing, which is why I never took to journaling - even teen me knew that the diary entries were not representative.
Your biggest Fear:One Hundred Years of Solitude - Never being loved.
You excelled at: Mind Games - Reading.
You were always concerned about: How to Be Popular - *sighs* Such a cliche.
=You Thought Your Life Was: More Than This - Or, at least, it should be.

Love Life:

How would you sum up your high school love life? The Art of Wishing - As in wishing to have a love life.
Describe your most serious boyfriend from high school?  Imaginary Men - No boyfriends in high school, so...
Describe your first kiss: Not Exactly a Love Story - Not all it was cracked up to be.
Your philosophy on dating/love: Born of Illusion - I had crushes on EVERYONE.
Describe Your Worst Break Up: Over You - Not really had a bad break up, but having to dump someone because the feelings are gone is always awkward.

Family

Your relationship with your mom as a teen: Never Enough - Mom was a motivated student and liked to tell me how she was a valedictorian. Me, not so much.
Your relationship with your dad as a teen: One Plus One Equals Blue - We're similar in a lot of ways, but also often totally on the wrong wavelength and can't communicate effectively.
Your relationship with a sibling: Fat Cat - Only sibling was my cat, Tiger. Only child!
What you thought about your parents rules/parenting style: A Family of Readers To be positive on this list for once, my parents raised me to be a reader and I've always been grateful for that.

Friends:

Describe you and your best friend at 16: Sidekicked - I was her sidekick, but I don't mind that.
Your Social Status: The Rules for Disappearing - Trying to be unobtrusive enough that people would let me sit near them in class and at lunch.
Describe Your Group Of Friends: One Lonely Degree - In junior and senior year, things improved when I made one really good friend. She was my one connection to a social life.

School:

Your Perception Of High School Upon Entering: The Summer I Turned Pretty - Basically, over the summer before freshman year, I got a bit thinner, changed my style, and started straightening my hair, so I thought everything would change. Spoiler: it didn't.
Your relationship with academics: Deadline - Get shit done, but only at the last minute.
Your Weekends Were: Into the Wild Nerd Yonder - Reading, reading, reading.
If Your High School Life Was A Movie It would be called: Don't Expect Magic - Because there won't be any.
A Class You Wish High School Would Have Offered: The Realm of Possibility - Teach me what I could actually be; don't tell me that I can do anything if I try hard enough.
Your Senior Year Was: The Secret Year I did a few things my parents didn't know about and wouldn't have approved of with my friend that year.
Describe prom: The Vast Fields of Ordinary - Didn't go. Stayed home and read like any other night.
When High School Ended It Was: Bitter End - Can you tell I was bitter?

The Future

How You Felt About The Prospect of College: Out of This Place - Woo! New people! New places! New opportunities!
How You Thought Your Life Would Be At 25: All I Ever Wanted - Totally was my version of "Thirty, Flirty and Thriving." Teen me would not be impressed with where I am now, but I'm cool with it.

Your Life Now:

Describe Your Love Life Now: Wasteland - Bahaha. No love life.
Describe The State Of Your Friendship With Your High School BFF: The Distance Between Us - She lives in NYC, but at least I get to see her for BEA!
Your Relationship With Your Parents Now: Be More Chill - So much better now that they can't tell me what to do really.
Your Thoughts On Your High School Reunion (either if you had it or if it’s upcoming): What I Was - I don't know that I'll go, because I might revert a bit to my old self and you can see why I wouldn't want that.
Biggest Lesson You Learned In High School: Live Through This More like, I made it through middle school, so I would get through this too.
One Thing You WISHED You Had Learned: The F- It List I don't give a fuck about the people who don't like me.
Advice You Wish You Could Have Given Your Teen Self: Someday This Pain Will Be Useful to You - You'll turn out mostly alright in the end.
Something You Could Learn From Your 16 Year Old Self: Major Crush - How to not be so picky about guys. I mean, I don't want to be THAT not-picky, but younger me was more open to possibility.

Well, that was a bit embarrassing. But now you know what I was like in the past. Scary, is it not?

  1. "How would you describe your 16 year old self? The Off Season - High school was not a good time for me. Haha." <-- Me neither. I don't understand when people say it was so good.

"When You Looked Into The Mirror What Did You See: Ten Things I Hate About Me - Self-loathing, etc." <-- Me too. Having three older brothers did not help.

"Describe An Insecurity In High School: The DUFF - What friends I had were generally prettier, so what if I was just there to make them look better by comparison?" <-- Prettier. More outgoing. Less awkward. This book so worked because it was so easy to fall into that concept.

"Your biggest Fear:One Hundred Years of Solitude - Never being loved." <-- Yep. S'why Teen Me fell for that Twilight stage.

"You Thought Your Life Was: More Than This - Or, at least, it should be." <-- this is me like 24/7. The life of a dreamer on repeat.

"Describe your first kiss: Not Exactly a Love Story - Not all it was cracked up to be." <-- YES, YA HEROINES, WHY DON'T YOU EVER REALIZE THIS?

"Your philosophy on dating/love: Born of Illusion - I had crushes on EVERYONE." WHY ARE OUR EXPERIENCES SO SIMILAR. I've had a crush on someone new nearly every year since like first grade. o.O

"Your relationship with a sibling: Fat Cat - Only sibling was my cat, Tiger. Only child!" <-- Pfft. Pffffffft. I wish I could have considered Skittles and Shadow my siblings o.O.

"A Class You Wish High School Would Have Offered: The Realm of Possibility - Teach me what I could actually be; don't tell me that I can do anything if I try hard enough." <-- NOT JUST IN HIGH SCHOOL. LIFE. I'm still trying to figure this one out.

"Your Senior Year Was: The Secret Year I did a few things my parents didn't know about and wouldn't have approved of with my friend that year." <-- ME TOO. Also known as sneaking into the house via the garage door and lying about it the next day! Woo!

"Describe prom: The Vast Fields of Ordinary - Didn't go. Stayed home and read like any other night." <-- Prom was so not worth it; be glad you didn't waste your money. I wish I had read instead.

"How You Felt About The Prospect of College: Out of This Place - Woo! New people! New places! New opportunities!" <-- AAAAAAAAAAA reading this makes me so nostalgic for that feeling again.

"Your Relationship With Your Parents Now: Be More Chill - So much better now that they can't tell me what to do really." <-- So lucky. Mine still try. I'm nearly 22, and up until last year, my mother would *still* wait up for me at night.

So, Christina. There's a bit about the past of another Christina :P. And I have a feeling this comment is super long, so I'm going to sneak away now...
