Cover Reveal Thursday (7)

Oh hey, time for me to round up a bunch of cover reveals again! Please comment and let me know your favorites too! I'm trying something new (still figuring out how I want to do this) and making the winner of the cover battle larger than the loser, so you can tell which one won without reading my comments, although I recommend you read them because they're snarktastic. :-p

Cover Battle: Renegade - J. A. Souders
 

US vs. German: Both of these covers draw the eye. I love pretty hair, pretty dresses and pretty colors. Neither one really grabs me though on a deep level. After Kelly Jensen's post on women's positioning, I can't help being sad to see two more very passive girls on these covers. US wins by a margin, because I like the color variety.

Cover Battle: Stormdancer - Jay Kristoff

UK vs. US: Gotta say, I like both, but US definitely wins for sheer badassery. I love the background, the sakura and the title font on the UK cover, but the outfit's a little weird. Actually, the outfit is weird on the US cover too, but I guess she had to cut a sleeve off her kimono to show off her INCREDIBLY BALLING TATTOO. Also, check out the thunder tiger up there. Menacing, right? I feel like this cover better encapsulates the darkness and bloodshed that I am sure will be all up in Stormdancer. Also, take a moment to appreciate that both of these cover models are a) actually Asian and b) posed powerfully.

  Cover Battle: Unraveling Isobel - Eileen Cook

Hardcover vs. Paperback: Hardback definitely wins for me. The purple draws my eye, and the fascinating content keeps me there. I love that the cover model is interacting with her environment, rather than being passive. Also, I love fancy font and vines on covers. (Shock!) The paperback cover is fine, but it just isn't as unique as the hardcover. All it's conveying to me is contemporary romance. I just went and read the plot, and am not sure either cover really captures what the book is about. I'm really a bit shocked to discover this is a gothic paranormal about ghosts. So not contemporary, realistic fiction? Hmmm.

Cover Battle: Envy - Elizabeth Miles

US vs. UK: The clear winner here is the UK cover. For one thing, it matches the Fury cover. If you've read my review, you know that I loathed Fury, and pretty much thought the cover was all it had going for it. Let's just say that the US cover would not tempt me to read book two, and the UK cover might, as I am a shallow, masochistic person sometimes where YA books are concerned.

The Dark Unwinding - Sharon Cameron

 Thoughts: Meh. Not impressed with the amount of work that went into this. The only think that's grabbing me is the color of her dress. The clockwork could have been better, as could the title font. Honestly, it's just another pretty white model in a fancy dress looking over her shoulder passively. She's been photoshopped in front of a castle. Yawn. I will still read the book, though, because steampunk.

Cover Battle: My Life Undecided - Jessica Brody

Hardback vs. Paperback: Well, I'm not especially impressed with either cover tbh. However, I definitely name the hardback the winner of this battle. I like the sassy, real-looking model on the cover. The heart-shaped mouse is one of the lamest things I've seen in a while. Just no.

Cover Battle: My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century - Rachel Harris

Original vs. Redesign: The winner of this battle is clear. I mean, come on. I thought the original cover was completely awful. Everything about it, pretty much. The fan and dress are ugly, like they were made out of curtains or a couch cover. The sunglasses are obnoxious, and the model looks bored out of her skull, probably by the dress. The background is just a big grey blur. The new cover has a pretty dress, eye-popping colors, and a backpack instead of the sunglasses, which is apparently way crucial to the story. Good job, redesigners!

Cover Battle: If We Kiss - Rachel Vail

Old vs New Cover: The old cover is cute in a very early 2000s kind of way. I remember teen chick lit having pink, cartoon-y covers. This redesign is definitely a good choice for the current market. Good job, guys!

Carnival of Souls - Melissa Marr

Thoughts: They could have done better. It's just kind of boring, and doesn't look like that much work went into it. I am disappoint.

The Witch of Little Italy - Suzanne Palmieri

Thoughts: This cover totally told me exactly what this book was: something I want to read. More specifically, women's fiction and historical fiction. Awesome. Rather reminiscent of de Rosnay covers. 

Dearly, Beloved - Lia Habel

Thoughts: The first cover was better imo. And I'm not sure how I feel about them as a series. The only thing really tying them together is the title font. I'm not sure why they moved the author name, either.

City of a Thousand Dolls - Miriam Forster

 

Thoughts: This cover is not what I was expecting from that title. Like at all. I like what the cover is promising. Very epic.

Dualed - Elsie Chapman

Thoughts: This cover is awesomely badass. I totally dig it. Look how powerful that heroine looks! Also, did you notice that the shadow is not a shadow? CREEPY. I want to read this right now! 

 Audition and Subtraction - Amy Fellner Dominy

 Thoughts: MG fiction about band geeks? I'm in. The cover is very cute. I really don't have much else to say other than that. 

The Dead and Buried - Kim Harrington

Thoughts:  This is great. I looked at it and thought it was an awesome cover for a ghost story, and it is! Yay!  

The Twilight Saga: The Complete Film Archive

 Thoughts: BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. That is all.
