Okay, y'all, there is just no way I can list off only ten book quotes and be at all honest. Actually, my memory's so bad, that I would always forget something. So, basically, here's a list of ten freaking awesome quotes from fantastic books. ENJOY!
- "It is only a novel... or, in short, only some work in which the greatest powers of the mind are displayed, in which the most thorough knowledge of human nature, the happiest delineation of its varieties, the liveliest effusions of wit and humour, are conveyed to the world in the best-chosen language." - Jane Austen, Northanger Abbey
- "In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move." - Douglas Adams, The Restaurant at the End of the Universe
- I would always rather be happy than dignified" - Charlotte Brontë, Jane Eyre
- "The difference between the truth and a lie is that both of them can hurt, but only one will take the time to heal you afterward." - Mira Grant, Feed
- "I solemnly swear that I am up to no good." - J. K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
- "I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of any thing than of a book! -- When I have a house of my own, I shall be miserable if I have not an excellent library." - Jane Austen, Pride & Prejudice
- "You must never feel badly about making mistakes ... as long as you take the trouble to learn from them. For you often learn more by being wrong for the right reasons than you do by being right for the wrong reasons." - Norton Juster, The Phantom Tollbooth
- "I have a friend request from some stranger on facebook and I delete it without looking at the profile because that doesn't seem natural. 'Cause friendship should not be as easy as that. It's like people believe all you need to do is like the same bands in order to be soulmates. Or books.omg... U like the outsiders 2... it's like we're the same person! No we're not. It's like we have the same English teacher. There's a difference." - David Levithan, Will Grayson, Will Grayson
- "But why? Why do you need prophets to tell you how you ought to live? Why do you need anyone to tell you how you ought to live?" - Daniel Quinn, Ishmael
- "How can he be unhappy when he is strong and alive? What more is one to give him? And think how he was brought up—free from all the superstition and ignorance that lead men to hate one another in the name of God. With such an education as that, I thought he was bound to grow up happy." - E. M. Forster, A Room with a View
Great quotes!
ReplyDeleteLoved the Will Grayson, Will Grayson quote. :)
And the Pride & Prejudice one is from Mary, right?
Actually, the P&P quote is Miss Bingley. She says it untruthfully, in an attempt to convince Darcy that she is in fact a great reader. But that doesn't make it less of an awesome quote or any less Jane's true opinion. :)
DeleteI just read A Room with a View a few months ago and I loved it, great pick!
ReplyDeleteA Room with a View is my favorite movie, and one of my favorite books. :) I love it.
DeleteOh, Feed! Excellent choice. My favorite quote from that one is the very, very end. I always start blubbering like a baby. It's terrible.

My TTT!
Yes, Feed is so good! If you haven't read the next book, you really, really should, because it is also AMAZING!!!
DeleteLove your Harry Potter pick, that's a favorite of mine too:) And you have included the master: John Green. Nice job:)
ReplyDeleteLOL. I'm pretty sure we ALL included a John Green quote. I even found one that was SOLELY John Green.
DeleteWhat cool list. Some of my favorite reads are here.
ReplyDeleteI love that Adams quote! I didn't manage to get a funny quote on our TTT, but I really wanted to.
ReplyDeleteThe Adams quote is funny! One of my favourites is--
ReplyDelete“What really knocks me out is a book that, when you're all done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it. That doesn't happen much, though.”
J.D.Salinger, Catcher in the Rye.

DeleteLOL. That's so funny, especially since that's totally how I started my review for Deadline pretty much. Awesome!
DeleteHaha you know I always look for the Harry Potter quotes first! There will always be one!! :D I love these!
ReplyDeleteYeah, Charlotte Bronte!
ReplyDeleteAlso, weird coincidence, but I totally almost used the "I solemnly swear I'm up to no good" quote for that project I bought supplies for today, but I think I'm going to go with "It is our choices that show who we truly are, far more than our abilities instead." Basically, you are made of win and psychic power.
I also put the end quote in the wrong place. Wah wah.
