Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Breaking the Spine.
I read my first Laura Wiess novel for book club this year, Ordinary Beauty, and I really liked it. I definitely need more of her books in my life, because they stomp on your heart in the way that I love from my contemporaries.
Author: Laura Wiess
Expected Publication Date: September 3, 2013
Publisher: MTV Books
Synopsis from Goodreads:
Sixteen-year-old Rowan is still reeling from her father’s suicide four months ago, after he failed to stop a man from leaping off an overpass to his death. The only witness is Eli, a teenaged boy wrapped deep in mourning for his own father, killed in action in Afghanistan. When Rowan and Eli meet, they recognize kindred spirits, and begin to navigate grief and its aftermath together.
Rowan can’t understand how her father could choose to leave her, and acts out, pushing away friends and taking risks with her safety. Rowan’s mother, wracked with her own guilt and sorrow over failing to save her husband, stops going to work and collects stray cats for comfort. Grief, fractured and unpredictable, rules their lives now. Rowan is lost—and sinking. But Eli represents a lifeline for Rowan, and as they struggle to make sense of what’s gone and what is left behind, they begin to fall in love. Me Since You is Laura Wiess at her finest—a beautiful, gripping and painfully honest examination of adolescence.
This book looks soooooo sad-not sure if I'll be brave enough to read it, unless raving reviews convince me otherwise.
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly why I want to read it. *spins*
DeleteOh I already feel that I'll cry my heart out with this book! I love those books, that make you cry. So I'm adding this to my list. Thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteHere is our WOW
Right? It will be amazing!
DeleteThis sounds like such a tear-jerker! I need these from time to time though. Definitely adding to my TBR. Sounds like it would be good. :) Thanks for sharing!

Probably so. Ordinary Beauty was really depressing. Love it!
DeleteYES! Gritty contemporaries are running rampant! I hadn't heard of this one until I saw you and Giselle feature it today so I am happy that you have! This is one for my TBR!
ReplyDeleteYup, I'm excited!
DeleteHow did I not know about this book? I love Laura Wiess and I can't wait to check this one out. Great WoW pick!
ReplyDeleteInitially, I think the pub date was some time in 2014, but it seems to have been moved up. Yay!
DeleteI've been meaning to read all of Laura Weiss's books for so long...I own Leftovers and How It Ends, although I actually want to read Ordinary Beauty the most. Glad you liked that one, and this new one sounds good too!
ReplyDeleteFrom what I've heard, Ordinary Beauty isn't even her best. It gets a bit ridiculous at times, but it's still so beautiful and powerful. I think Such a Pretty Girl or Leftovers are supposed to be best. I own the other two, of course. :-p
DeleteAhh! Second time I've seen this one today and it makes me want to read it right MEOW! Do we _really_ have to wait until Sep-freaking-tember?!
ReplyDeleteGreat pick, friend! Will check out Ordinary Beauty in the meantime :-)

You should! I bet you would enjoy Ordinary Beauty!
DeleteI love a good 'tough' contemporary, and this sounds awesome. Fabulous pick!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds amazing! Also, sounds like one where I will need a Kleenex box, but still it sounds so good!
ReplyDeleteI've seen this one a couple of times now. I haven't heard of it before this WoW.
