I'm back from BEA! What you can expect:
  • The triumphant return of Cover Snark
  • A post about what I learned at BEA 2013
  • A series of book haul vlogs for the books once my shipments arrive (hopefully all safe and sound, otherwise you shall hear of my tears).

Other Pop Culture in May

Happy Endings, season 1
This is one of the favorite shows of a very dear friend, so I've been dying to try Happy Endings for ages. The first season is funny, but not as much of a hit with me as I'd been hoping. My problem is that, though I find the basic premise and the dialog amusing, most of the characters seriously annoy me. Oh well, on the plus side, I don't have to spend money to acquire more seasons, since this isn't on Netflix. Glad I was able to borrow season one and check the show out, but I'll be okay if I don't get more.

Arrested Development, season 1
I'm refreshing myself before I watch the new season, though I won't get all the way through beforehand. This show is fabulous. Watch it if you haven't!

Monthly Box Giveaway
This giveaway is open to US readers only, as I will be shipping the books myself and cannot afford international postage. You can enter to win your choice of any or all of the following books:

  1. Ah now I know why it's been so quiet the last week ;)

    1. Yup, it's been quiet because I've been gone. Otherwise, there's no way to shut me up. :-p

  2. If ONLY this went to Canada! :'(

    1. Sorry. Shipping to Canada is 3-5 times more expensive than shipping in the US, but I do have international giveaways for my favorite reads, so check back for those.

    1. Ha, Mistborn was the best. I think I'll be reading the second in the next week or two. HOLLA.

    2. If that becomes a solid plan: read-a-long?

    3. Oh, it's happening. When exactly I read it is the question. I'll try to remember to tweet you!

    4. Even if you forget, I'll see on GR or Twitter so I can still hop on :D.

  7. Welcome back! I hope your books arrive safely! I've been wondering why almost everyone ships their books though? Is it so you don't have a check in your luggage? I'm just curious since I hope to go to BEA next year.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Me toooo. Yeah, it's because I'd have to check luggage both ways and then lug it around the city with me. The latter is the biggest deterrent. I was there for a week and did a lot of moving around.

    2. Oh, okay. Thanks! That definitely make sense. I was talking to my mom about saving up to go next year, and she said she'd ship the books back home too instead of dragging around a heavy bag and having to check it.

      Delete
    3. Um, yeah, well, I'm going to advise dragging the bag at this point, since a bunch of my books didn't arrive.

  8. That's a great box of books! I still need to get a hardcopy of the new Katie McGarry book. Of course, I need to actually read it too. Eeepp!

    1. Ha, I have a hard copy of Dare You To in my first BEA box if it arrives safely. *hopes*

    1. Thanks for hoping, but there was not enough hope in the world. I can only imagine what they'll have done to box three.

  12. Yay! I'm so glad you're back. My past two Thursdays have been awful without you. ;-)

  13. Even though it's going to make me infinitely jealous, I'm looking forward to that BEA post. And your book haul video. And more cover snark. :) Ugh, I always get this paranoid feeling when I know I have books in the mail. They almost always arrive safely, though, and I'm sure yours will, too.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Nope, this time my paranoia was right on point. Several books did not arrive at all. So yeah. I'm undecided on whether I'll do a video at this point. We'll see.

  14. WELCOME BACK! *throws rainbow confetti*
80% of why I'm entering this giveaway is for INVISIBILITY. Because I need to know how his invisibility mechanics works. And if he has to walk around naked. It's the puzzle of my life.

Also looking forward to your BEA haul (I have a feeling the BEA hauls will be filling up my subscriptions this next week or so,) so I can find out what are the "hot" books coming out. =)

    1. Blehhhh, that book. You will hate it, and your review will make me laugh.

Not sure if I'm going to do a BEA haul anymore since I'm so sad/angry about a bunch of books not making it.

    2. That actually made me want to squeeze it into my reading schedule a lot sooner...*curious* I can be such a masochist with reading.

Oh no!! What happened? I see something about a destroyed box in your tweets...so somebody destroyed your box? O_O

      Delete
  15. You know how much I missed Cover Snark but am glad you had such a great time at BEA. Can't wait to see all your vlogs about your haul. Those of us that weren't able to go are living through those of you were able to! Thanks for the chance to win such a great box of books...I'd freak if I won!

    1. Well, I can probably make them without sounding braggy now since one of my boxes got totally destroyed. :(

  16. YAY Cover Snark! :)
