In My Mailbox (11)

From Penguin:
More lovely titles from Penguin. Seriously love those guys! Anyway, I'm branching out of my usual genres for a true crime book, which, by the way, is completely gorgeous in person. The cover is a texture sensation! Also, I cam home on Thursday to a surprise book, Greek Myths. Yay! I love Greek mythology. Note that this is not a graphic novel, although I do love the cover anyway.

Won in Giveaways:

Actually, both of these books are going to be going to other people. Usually, I am greedy and keep them for myself, but not this time! The first I won from Read It Forward, and I'm passing it on to my dad, because I think he might like it. A Discovery of Witches is amazing, but I actually already have a copy. I won this one in a Twitter giveaway from PenguinPbks. I was going to save it for a giveaway on my blog when Shadow of Night comes out, but one of my friends (Heather of Coffee-Stained Pages) wants it, so I'm giving it to her. May still be a giveaway if she doesn't want to keep it, though. Thanks to Read It Forward/HarperCollins and Penguin!

And now for a sad story. It begins well. I won a twitter giveaway by Tash for her last ARC of The Mapmaker and the Ghost. Awesome. It arrived and even came with some surprise swag, which was the cutest bookmark. The bookmark involved a sweet red ribbon. Knowing that my cat is endlessly tempted by anything remotely resembling a string, so I tucked the bookmark completely into the book and went out for the evening. I came home to see all of my new books knocked over and the bookmark sans ribbon. My cat is why I can't have nice things!

From NetGalley:

It's probably fairly readily apparent that I have a huge NetGalley requesting problem; basically, I want ALL OF THE THINGS! I've read and requested a lot of things I've ended up not liking, although I'm trying to be pickier. Of course, publishers are putting more stuff up, so I still come out with halls like this. All of these I am seriously excited for. And look at those covers! Score! Thanks to Little, Brown and Company, Simon & Schuster, Flux Books, Penguin Young Readers Group and Disney-Hyperion for giving me access to these awesome books!

Something Red - Douglas Nicholas / So Far Away - Meg Mitchell Moore / The Lifeboat - Charlotte Rogan

Innocent Darkness - Suzanne Lazear / False Memory - Dan Krokos / The Treachery of Beautiful Things - Ruth Frances Long

Purchased:
I made another trip to Goodwill. Super excited about the Meg Cabot and Neil Gaiman find!

Inés of My Soul - Isabel Allende / Cutting for Stone - Abraham Vergese / V. - Thomas Pynchon

Insatiable - Meg Cabot / Odd and the Frost Giants - Neil Gaiman

Net Galley is dangerous that way! Congrats on your goodwill scores - and YAY for winning the ARC of The Mapmaker and the Ghost! (As a Cartographer and lover of children's books, that one has been calling to me.)

Awesome haul. Netgalley's got great books, I've been so lucky lately, although I haven't requested in the last three weeks- I got carried away with book buying, which is why my IMM this week is freebie kindle downloads.
Innocent Darkness looks fabulous. I haven't read Isabel Allende in ages; got to get back to her books this year.

Before I had such a sizable collection, I almost always left Goodwill with an armful of books. I think I left with two of their giant bags full o' books once. And I only take ones in good condition. It's crazy awesome!

Yup! So many lovely NetGalley titles. I can barely get them read, but that just forces me to read more than ever, so I don't feel particularly moved to stop myself requesting what I want. :-p
