Cover Reveal Thursday (5)

Oh hey, just pretend it's Thursday, because I kind of forgot to post this yesterday. Oops!

Just Breathe (Just Breathe #3) - Kendall Grey
Thoughts: These covers dovetail (whaletail?) pretty nicely together. I'm glad there's finally a whale on the cover of one of them. :) According to Kara of Great Imaginations, I should read this...and soon.

Cover Battle: Sweetly (Fairy Tale Retellings #2) - Jackson Pearce
Original vs. Redesign: With the release of the third book in Pearce's fairy tale retelling trilogy, the series is getting new covers. Sisters Red hasn't been revealed yet. If Sweetly had been released like the new cover originally, I would have been okay with it, but the cover on the left is SO MUCH BETTER. It's unique and so completely tells you that inside the book will be a creepy fairy tale.

Fathomless (Fairy Tale Retellings #3) - Jackson Pearce
Thoughts: I'm really mad that they didn't just finish out the trilogy with the awesome covers. They were seriously some of my favorite covers of all time. I think the Sweetly redesign is better than this one. The mermaid necklace isn't doing it for me. Or maybe I just feel cheated of the awesome hidden-face design.

Awry (The Archers of Avalon #1) - Chelsea Fine
Thoughts: These two look nice together. I like the purple and the text for the titles.

Asunder (Newsoul #2) - Jodi Meadows
Thoughts: I like that this is clearly the same model, and that they obviously belong together. I still love the title font and colors. The face overlay still creeps me out. I don't think I'll be completely sure how I feel about these until I read the series and know if they make any sense.

Moonset (Legacy of Moonset #1) - Scott Tracey
Thoughts: A little too brown and I don't like the title font/color. However, I do like it otherwise.

Elixir (Covenant #3.5) - Jennifer L. Armentrout
Thoughts: This fits perfectly with the rest of the series. Besides, you know what they look like right? I would complain about the monochromatic nature, but they're all like this. As a set, they'll be colorful. Guess you have to have all of them.

Cover Battle: Spellbound (Spellbound #1) - Cara Lynn Shultz
US vs UK: Usually I prefer UK covers, but recently they've been doing more of the stereotypical cover. I don't entirely love the US cover, but it's unique and memorable. Also, is that a castle in the background of the new UK cover? What?

Fairyland (Songs of Magic #4) - J. L. Bryan

Thoughts: This is definitely the best of this series' covers so far, imo.

Cover Battle: Shadow and Bone (The Grisha #1) - Leigh Bardugo
US vs German vs UK: For me, the US cover is far and away the winner. I love the covers and that it actually looks Russian. That one says tsarpunk is all I'm saying. The German cover actually makes me think of Harry Potter (hi Prongs!). The UK cover is my least favorite. They tried to make the standard pretty dress on a scared girl cover, and they didn't even do a great job with that.

Cover Battle: 13 (Women of the Otherworld #13) - Kelley Armstrong
US vs Canada: Actually, my favorite cover for this one is the UK version, but, of these two, it's a toss up. From these images, I would go with the US, but I think the Canada cover's going to look really awesome in real life. Can we also talk about how lame it is to call the thirteenth book 13? There better be a reason for that in the book.

The Mephisto Kiss (The Mephisto Covenant #2) - Trinity Faegen
Thoughts: These don't especially fit together as a series. The colors are very different, as are the models. I prefer the cover for book one. They might make sense based on the story, but I haven't read it.

WOW! I'm gobsmacked! Thanks for declaring JUST BREATHE your Cover of the Week. I wish I could take the credit for its beauty, but photographer Teresa Yeh and cover designer Claudia McKinney (Phat Puppy Art) were the ones who brought my vision to life. I couldn't be happier with the outcome. :-)

Christina, drop what you are doing and read it immediately. And then let me know what you think! LOL.

I love the Jodi Meadows covers! So, so pretty. Also, I agree that the Sweetly cover is so much better the first time.

Why do covers need to look different in different countries? Is that a publisher thing? I kind of love getting to see these covers from different places around the world though. So thanks for showing those!

OMG, The Mephisto Kiss looks godawful :) I can tell you straight away that the cover of the first book has nothing to do with the content, so I expect the second to be the same... It's just so self-published in a bad sense, because I know self-published books with really good covers!
