Cover Reveal Roundup (15)

Oh hey, everyone! Are you ready to judge some covers with me? Get down with your snarky self! Seriously, I love comments and I don't mind if you don't agree with my opinions. :)

For more info on a book, click the title, which will link you to Goodreads.

Hooked - Liz Fichera
Thoughts: Wait, this is about GOLF? Huh? Lol whut. Well, that guy does look like a poncey ass, so I guess that works. They also look really naked, except that she appears to be wearing a scrap of fabric. The model is gorgeous and even maybe non-white (I'm really not good at telling). All in all, I have a love/hate relationship with this cover. Also, GOLF? WHY?

Natural Born Angel (Immortal City #2) - Scott Speer
Thoughts: Dear authors, you may want to reconsider writing about angels, because the covers look incredibly lame 99% of the time. I mean, dudes, HER WINGS ARE PURPLE. What's the deal? Also, why do cover designers always give them tiny ass wings. No way she's flying with those.

Underground (Zom-B #2) - Darren Shan
Thoughts: It's really sad that I am less amused by the dudes on these covers than by the 'sexy' dudes on covers marketed to ladies. Pretty sure this cover is like the dude version of pretty dresses; it says 'FLAMETHROWERS!' I wonder, though, about the logic of a zombie wielding a flamethrower. Is this a suicidal zombie? Maybe we need to sign him up for counseling...assuming we can convince him to stop with the self-immolation and not eat his psychologist.

The Star Child - Stephanie Keyes
Thoughts: *snorts* Yes, the background is pretty and the font is neat, but that guy is SO skinny. Plus, he has a sort of broody Edward-vampire thing going on. Bahahaha.

Inbetween (Kissed by Death #1)- Tara Fuller
Thoughts: That awkward moment where you accidentally coordinate with your significant other. This concept has been done before and better. Epic fail.

Never Enough Stories (Companion to Never Enough) - Denise Jaden

Thoughts: Apparently, this is how Denise pictures Loann. Totally not the image in my mind, but, hey, I do think the expression is just right, the vulnerability and lack of trust. I like that the cover definitely calls to mind Never Enough's without being so similar as to be confusing. Also, she has the perfect book title to release extra stories. Nice going, Denise!

Diverse Energies - Tobias S. Buckell & Joe Monti, eds.
Thoughts: Guys, this is so PRETTY. Also, I can has? This sounds all kinds of awesome. I really just love the colors and the font and everything. I don't know if I'm ready for the future, but I AM ready for this book!

Two Weeks' Notice (Revivalist #2) - Rachel Caine

Thoughts: Book two and the skirts are shorter. Awesome! But she does get a jacket now, so hopefully she won't be cold. I actually like these covers. I think they're funny, a bit sexy, and the heroine looks like a badass, even in a mini-skirt. Also, I am seriously LOVING that bloggers got quoted in the freaking front cover blurb. AWESOMESAUCE.

Broken - A. E. Rought
Thoughts: Meh. I don't feel like this is doing anything special. That's really disappointing, since I've liked all the Strange Chemistry covers I've seen so far. Also, looking at the blurb, this is apparently a modern retelling of Frankenstein. I did not get that from the cover AT ALL. Still want to read it, though.

Much Ado About Magic (Enchanted, Inc. #5) - Shanna Swendson
Thoughts: Guys, I don't think you have any conception of how freaking excited I am about this. This is straight up my favorite chick lit series. I love it. You should read them. Shanna Swendson is so hilarious. Just look at the adorable titles. Not my fav covers, but I don't even care!

The Lucy Variations - Sara Zarr
Thoughts:
Well, that's...okay. I like the title font. Otherwise....meh. Not sure if the reflection at the top is helping matters.

Unremembered (Unremembered #1) - Jessica Brody
Thoughts:
This isn't a super original concept, but I really like how it came out. The title font is really cool, and I like the way the author's name stands out in the pink. The blur fits perfectly with the book's subject too. High five, designers.

Afterparty - Ann Redisch Sampler
Thoughts:
You know what sucks? When you wear tall heels out to a party and the buses stop running or your ride leaves you. I have done what she's doing...just not in the road or the rain. Sometimes it's worth the chances of stepping on something gross and/or painful rather than wearing heels for one more moment. I like this cover. It definitely makes me want to know her story.

"Book two and the skirts are shorter. Awesome! But she does get a jacket now, so hopefully she won't be cold." This made me lol forever. Seriously, I'm still laughing as I type this.

I super love the covers for Unremembered and Afterparty!

Ahhh, Never Enough is so good. I really need to read the extra stories :)

Great series of covers! I'm not a huge fan of Hooked's cover. It's okay, but it doesn't "hook" me. But I've read the synopsis and it sounds fabulous.

I laughed and laughed at Hooked's cover, and at The Star Child. I could have made that on photoshop. Plus, that model has dainty wrists. Also, I am LOVING the cover of Diverse Energies.

But other than that, this week is just meh for me.

Damn girl, where on earth did you find these? The only one I'm familiar with is Inbetween, since I did the FIRST cover reveal for it. Then... they changed the cover to this... not a fan. I like the original MUCH better.

My first thought with the Star Child was Edward Cullen. I laughed when I read you thought the same thing. WoW!

I think my personal favorite is Afterparty. Just the cover alone makes me want to read it. (Yes I judge a book by its cover)

Glad you're amused by that. It's a seriously short skirt. Seriously.

I like those covers too!

Yeah, you do. I read the first one already. Need to read more.

I'm not sure about the synopsis, but I'm definitely intrigued, and not because of the cover.

Yeah, it was definitely not the best week for covers. There were only three that I really liked.

Right? The Star Child! Bahahaha. It's SO funny.

July 20, 2012 at 9:04 AM
Blogger Christina said...

Yeah, I thought there was another cover. And, yes, it was definitely better. This one doesn't look paranormal at all.

Yeah, he has broody face on, and that may be the same hair.

Afterparty does look awesome.

Judging books by their covers? I would never do that. ...oh wait.

AH! The Never Enough stories is one that I hadn't heard of before but I totally loved Never Enough so I will be on the lookout for that. I agree those angel covers are cheesetastic! I love the cover for Afterparty and will most definitely be reading that, you know... cause I'm a cover whore.

July 20, 2012 at 11:14 AM

Never Enough love! <3

I really have seen only like 1 angel cover ever that didn't look really lame. They just don't work for the most part.

Afterparty is totally an awesome cover, probably my second favorite.

OMG, are you always this hilarious with your cover reveal roundup?! I'm a new follower... LOVE IT! This is so much what I would rather read than constant gushing over every cover that exists. Definitely dig the snark :) Thanks for the laughs!

PS --- GOLF?! REALLY?!?! Don't play it, don't watch it, *definitely* don't wanna read about it...

July 20, 2012 at 3:56 PM
Blogger Christina said...

That is so freaking sweet! Thank you so much! I love hearing that. :-D

Yeah, I'm not a gusher. Well, most of the time. Sometimes I do think they're gorgeous, and then I gush appropriately. Watching people react to covers on Twitter, I'm always amazed at how much people can love things I think are visually absurd.

I, too, hate golf. I kind of want to read it just to see. Why, I don't know.

I haven't seen quite a few of these. I love your commentary and can totally relate to you and the girl in Afterparty. I'd read another one of Stampler's novels in a heartbeat anyway. Her last one was so good!

July 21, 2012 at 1:53 AM
Blogger Christina said...

Oooh, I haven't read any of Stampler's books, but I'm glad to know they're good.

Heels are a trap.

The only thng I think of with Hooked is the guy reminds me of Chad Michael Murray (With a slightly smug expression.) And the girl is like "oh shoot, I have to deal with you again." Are they supposed to be in love? Because I think the girl is closer to strangling him.
I have zero knowledge of golf except rich people play it...and it takes too long.
But I would love to drive those golf carts.
I was also somewhat expecting a golf-related title.

Since I'm looking for a light read in the midst of my post-apocalyptic/dystopian reading stint...I think I will check out Swendson's books! (this is depressing, only one library on the state of Hawaii has her books, which makes me wonder if the librarian is a fan)

I am distracted by the dude in Star Child's hands. It's like the size of his head-or even bigger than his head. And the perspective of the path is weird too (that one small and skinny path.) Hey, I am an art major.

Oh shoot, I still haven't gotten around to reading Immortal City yet. *sigh*

I'm LOVING the cover to Diverse Energies as well! Wilson, Le Guin...I'm sold.

I'm also loving afterparty's cover!
Though I have never had a ride leave me or stepped out of heels to walk on the sidewalk (I usually bring a pair of slippers with me...or I have too much pride)

Thank you for another cover round-up, I look forward to these posts!
And I actually typed a reply to the last one, then I(or my browser) closed the tab on me...and then after mentally screaming "NOOOOOOO!!" for a minute, I felt too lazy to retype the reply. Instead I opted to send my reply telepathically. Because typing is too mainstream.

I always love your comments! Just wanted you to know that!

Her expression does look super irritated, and I really don't blame her, because he looks like a prat. Since it's about golf, he probably is. Golf carts sound awesome. That must be why people play. I can think of no other reason.

YES! Do it! Only one set in Hawaii? That is so tragic. I think there are ebooks probably at least. Or Amazon. :)

Oh my goodness! That guy's hands are huge! Especially when compared to his tiny body. Lol.

I'm really not sure if I want to read Immortal City or not. The covers are awful, but I think I've heard some encouraging things. Maybe you should read it and tell me what's up!

Yeah, I want that anthology like whoa!

I should just give in and buy a monster purse so that I could put flip flops in my bag when I wear heels somewhere. That would be a good choice. Also, I could fit books in there!

I know =). And I love it when you reply, it makes me feel important in a ego-boosting away. (which makes me wonder if there's a way to get email notifications when people respond to my comments like wordpress does)

Speaking of golf carts, my mom used to work at a golf course and I guess it's because she never learned how to drive-but she scared her co-worker when she was learning how to drive the thing. So maybe they aren't as fun as they look, or my mom is too panicky to drive.
I watched like one minute of golf on TV today...I still think it was boring, even though the golfer was kinda cute. I bet he is rich since only posh people play golf.

After I saw that big-handed cover I ended up comparing my hand to my face, just to be sure I wasn't the deformed one. I think that guy has skinnier legs than me, pooey.

I placed a request for the first Swendson book, so it will probably come in at the end of the week. It's so tragic, but I find that my library isn't really great with new releases (unless they are on the bestsellers list.)
I rarely buy ebooks (Actually, I don't think I ever bought an ebook aside from those free Kindle ones), if I'm paying money I want something to show off, shove under people's noses in my attempt to get them to read, and maybe use as a paperweight.

Oh! They have those disposable shoe vending machines now! Which are supposedly located next to clubs so that girls can buy their own flimsy, foldable ballet flats to wear when their heels hurt to much.

But yes, monster purse is a great idea. Or you know, just get a guy.

There totally is a way to get notifications: click the orange 'Subscribe by email' text below and to the right of the comment box. Clicking after you comment is better, otherwise it also sends you your comment. What's nice about is that you don't have to confirm your follow like with Wordpress.

I feel like if you can drive a car, you ought to be able to drive a golf cart. Maybe not, but how different can it be. I got to drive one once when I was really young, and it was scary then, but I think I could manage it now!

Cute and rich? Get it.

He definitely has skinnier legs than I do. My thighs are immense. I just tell myself ladies are SUPPOSED to be shaped like this. They are, right? Yeah.

The Swendson books are not new releases. The last time one was released was 2008, I think. Her publisher didn't want to release another so she's self-publishing this one, I believe.

I've only bought two ebooks. I like print copies. I just don't feel like I own an ebook.

WHAT? For reals? Shoe vending machines? That sounds like some crazy invention from Japan. But also a good idea.

LOL. And make him piggy back me home? Or, I guess, drive me. If only getting a guy were so simple!

Oh, I know about the "subscribe" option, but what if I don't care about everyone else's replies/comments (which I am assuming it will also send me) and only replies to my comment? O_O Actually there's the "subscribe to comments" thing on Wordpress that sometimes get checked automatically and starts subscribing me without confirmation to comments from posts that I don't want to be subscribed to. IT
s one of the things I hate about Wordpress.

Cute and rich? Yes I get it! HARLEQUIN HUSBAND MATERIAL.

Well, I don't think my library particular likes chick-lit anyway, so hence the lack of Swendson's books. *tear*

When I first read about the vending machines I was like "really? that sounds useless and a waste of electricity!"
but now that I read your comments about the horrors of heels and walking home in them...I see their usefulness now.
OR you can just be super cool and knock the heel out of your shoe so you have "flats." That's what cool women do in movies.

Hmmm, well, that is a conundrum. Okay, so you MIGHT be able to do it. I think, maybe, that if you write up your comment and publish it, then click Reply beneath that comment and bring up the little sub-comment box and THEN click "Subscribe by email" from there, that should work. Maybe. If not, I'm all out of ideas.

Harlequin husbands are also awesome at sex. They can just like poke your boob and make you orgasm. All right! You just have to except some bossiness.

Tragic! I don't read too much chick lit anymore, but it still should be in the library!

BUT I paid for my shoes! Sometimes. And usually from Goodwill. But still. What a waste!

July 25, 2012 at 9:19 AM
Blogger Lilian said...

I smiled when I read conundrum...such a quirky word, I definitely need to use it more often.
I will try it then..if not, well I think Blogger needs to do something! *gets pitchforks*

Yes, Harlequin lovers are always husband material, and they will never ever freak out and run away if you tell them you're pregnant. And they are always buff, super handsome, and super tall. And usually a white guy. If they aren't a white guy, they are the royalty of the Arabs or something. Fudge. I've read too many Harlequins.

Well, my library is obsessed with stocking up Obama biographies.
I swear half of the new non-fiction was Obama related. Or it's those ___ for Dummies guide books that I would never read unless I'm in some deep trouble.

Ok, fine. you can just glue the heel back on later with super glue.

July 25, 2012 at 9:52 AM
Blogger Christina said...

Yeah, I hope that works, because I'm not sure how long it would take Google to get to that.

Haha, you don't have to read too many to know that. The covers and blurbs tell you what you need to know. They do love arabs. The Sheikh's Mistress. The Pregnant Woman and the Sheikh. Hide and Sheikh. All of these COULD be Harlequin titles. Except maybe the last one. I think it's pretty great thought.

Wow. So no non-fiction for you, then. Unless you're REALLY interested in Obama.

July 25, 2012 at 9:59 AM
Blogger Lilian said...

I WANT TO READ A HARLEQUIN WITH A SKINNY NERD. Oh that cover would be hilarious.
And I approve of Hide and Sheikh, you better copyright it!

That's the thing with Hawaii--we LOVE Obama...and Bruno Mars to bits.
We sell Obama ukulele-playing bobbleheads. And we sing Bruno Mar's My Life Begins (which is odd since it's a break-up song, although a happier one) as a graduation song. Catchy stuff though.

Blogger Christina said...

I would be all over the skinny nerd Harlequin guy! I love me some skinny nerds. If he could also look a bit like Harry Shum Jr. that would be fantastic. *resists urge to go watch a YouTube video of him dancing*

*centers self*

COPYRIGHTED. That's how it works, right?

Wow. I did not know that about Hawaii. What are your opinions on Jack Johnson? Awesome or sellout?

July 25, 2012 at 1:38 PM
Blogger Lilian said...

That doesn't make sense! Harry Shum Jr. is one buff dude...and a tall one. But I totally approve of your tastes (I practically only look at him when I watch Glee) He is so adorkable! I absolutely love the Youtube videos he did with WongFu Productions. And his dance-off with kevjumba, priceless.

Jack Johnson. Well, I think his music is soothing and has a nice ladd-back vibe, although not really "my kind" of music. I LIKE MY CATCHY POP MUSIC. Even if it makes me question my musical tastes (I am classically trained in piano and viola). BUT NICKI MINAJ'S STARSHIPS IS SO CATCHY. *is clearly brainwashed*
So final verdict: Awesome. Because he holds this charity concert back in Hawaii every year (I ever go but I hear about it on the radio), so it would be evil of me to talk bad about him.

July 25, 2012 at 7:41 PM
Blogger Christina said...

Well, I wanted the nerd to be tall. He's skinny...just muscle skinny. And I like to imagine he's a nerd, so...LET ME HAVE MY DREAMS. If he is on the screen in a Glee episode, I am watching him. *resists urge to go to YouTube and watch him for hours because of good books waiting*

GAAHHHHHH! Nicki Minaj makes me want to kill everything. I can't stand most of her crazy singing styles. Which is unfortunate, because my best friend thinks she's AWESOME. Ergh.

That's cool. I wish I lived in Hawaii. WAHHHHH!

July 25, 2012 at 7:56 PM
Blogger Lilian said...

I swear every Glee episode I'm like "get off him, Tina!"
Fine. I will let you have your dreams. I DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR GOOD BOOKS, ADORKABLE COMES FIRST: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ncMxcoPNxw

Ok, ok CALM DOWN! *puts on headphones to listen to Nicki Minaj*
I am scared of her in music videos (which reminds me, Starships was filmed in Hawaii.)
I didn't even know she was singing about "panties coming off" in Super Bass until a friend told me, which makes me a bit worried about kids singing along.

YES, YOU SHOULD COME OVER. WE HAVE DOLPHINS AND SEA TURTLES.
But there's a severe lack of bookstores. *sigh*

July 25, 2012 at 8:35 PM
Blogger Christina said...

Right? I like Tina, but I'm still like, oh hell to the no, get off my man!

PUSHING THE LIMITS. AND STORMDANCER. Books win. Then I can celebrate with a big ol' bowl of adorkable. :-D

Yeah, you probably need to worry about all of the popmusic. ALL.

DOLPHINS. Who cares about bookstores? Amazon's cheaper anyway. I accept this consequence. If only Hawaii would offer me a job, like cocktail drinker. Yeah. And beach sitter. I would rock those.

I guess we have different tastes...the only cover that made me say "ooh, I need to go look that book up NOW" is the Starchild one. I'm kind of...frustrated?...that someone wouldn't like the cover because he's not a body builder. I didn't get "Edward" from it, I got smart and determined. Loved the cover.

July 26, 2012 at 10:32 AM
Blogger Christina said...

That's completely fine. Covers are VERY subjective. Often people's favorites are ones I didn't like. I do like that he's not the normal YA cover guy, for sure. I just wasn't sure about the hair style or the editing job. But hey, I'm glad you love it. Everyone needs pretties in their lives!

July 26, 2012 at 11:27 AM

FINE. I WILL LET IT GO THIS TIME. But only because of Stormdancer.

Well, kids have their Kidz Bop thing. I am surprised people actually listen to Kidz Bop. "Here's your mainstream pop music--but worse. high pitched squealing, singing off-tune and reselling junk stuff for twice the cost FTW!"

I like bookstores, I like standing there reading a book I'm too "frugal" to purchase. And I love the concept of walking around and browsing, reading the back and putting it back. Sometimes I feel like I'm too fixated with new releases that I miss out on old treasures.

I'm afraid cocktail drinker positions are occupied by lonely men and college drinkers...and beach sitter, taken up by the hobos.

July 26, 2012 at 4:36 PM
Blogger Christina said...

All things will yield to Stormdancer.

Lol. Random, but I do agree. Then again, I have some Glee songs on my iPod, so I don't think I can judge too much.

Yeah, i love wandering bookstores and just seeing what catches my eye. Anything I want to remember, I photograph with my cell phone and look up later.

DAMN. Well, what are my options?

July 26, 2012 at 11:01 PM
Blogger Lilian said...

Ha, I love my Glee songs: Silly Love Songs, One, She's Not There, the Thriller mash-up. I even have a The Glee Project song...guilty pleasure~

The think with bookstores is I don't like my books being touched by too many people. I wince when I see oily fingerprints (and then I try to grab the one WAYYYY in the back.) "If I'm shelling out 25bucks for this thing, it has to be pristine!"

I don't know! Professional sun-tan lotion tester? hula dancer? dolphin rider? Shave ice maker?
Anything tickles your fancy?

July 27, 2012 at 6:38 AM
Blogger Christina said...

Hahaha, with a legit book store, I might do the same thing. I buy most of mine used, so you can't be QUITE that particular. I have learned, though, to only buy ones in awesome condition, because, if I buy a less nice one, I'll see a pristine one later and want to buy the book AGAIN.

Dolphin rider is making me giggle! I don't have the coordination for the hula. I don't want skin cancer. Shaved ice maker sounds boring. Don't they have machines for that?
