Waiting on Wednesday (15)

Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Breaking the Spine.

Y'all, there are some books that I want based solely on the title. Mention anything nerdy and I'm probably going to be intrigued. I approve of ALL of the things in this title. That caught my attention. Then, there's the cover, which shows a giant evil robot (awesome) and cool artwork (I love pictures in books, because I'm totally still a child in my head). Even better, this is about superheroes. I LOVE superheroes! To top it all off, we've got diversity! AND Mike Jung is one of the only male Apocalypsies. Intriguing, right! Let's see, so if you kept count, that is a total of 8 reasons why I am waiting on this middle grade title.

Geeks, Girls and Secret Identities

Author: Mike Jung
Illustrator: Mike Maihack
Expected Publication Date: October 1, 2012
Publisher: Arthur A. Levine Books

Synopsis from Goodreads:

A SUPER funny, SUPER fast-paced, SUPER debut!

Vincent Wu is Captain Stupendous's No. 1 Fan, but even he has to admit that Captain Stupendous has been a little off lately. During Professor Mayhem's latest attack, Captain Stupendous barely made it out alive - although he did manage to save Vincent from a giant monster robot. It's Vincent's dream come true... until he finds out Captain Stupendous's secret identity: It's Polly Winnicott-Lee, the girl Vincent happens to have a crush on.

Captain Stupendous's powers were recently transferred to Polly in a fluke accident, and so while she has all of his super strength and super speed, she doesn't know how to use them, and she definitely doesn't know all the strengths and weaknesses of his many nemeses. But Vincent and his friends are just the right fan club to train up their favorite superhero before he (she?) has to face Professor Mayhem again. And if they make it through this battle for the safety of Copperplate City, Vincent might just get up the courage to ask Polly on a date.

Aw, thanks Christina! I hope you like the book, of course, but even if you end up hating it I'm still grateful that you're willing to read it. Woohoo!

This hooked me in for the same reasons Geekomancy did. The title is a sirens call to me!

Reminds me of that cartoon where the... cartoon character, forgot his name or description (I'm old! Get off my lawn!), floats while breathing in a good smell. Mmmmm, book smell. Time to look for a vein and go huff some books!

I think it's time to add some superpowers, robots, and even more geekiness into my life. :)

Right? Hahaha.

I have no idea what you're talking about but it sounds awesome.

Nerdy titles always get me. Nerd in the title? Want it. Geek? Sold. Star Trek reference (like Redshirts)? MUST HAVE. I am just so cool.

I'm pretty sure I would have remembered Mickey. I seem to recall a dog or wolf doing the same thing in another cartoon... Anyways! I meant that picture.

Replace Mickey with me, the hat with a bowler hat, the smell with... smell, and the pie with a geeky book. ;P

Redshirts! I want to get to that so bad! Bunch of other books in the way tho. :D

Bahahaha, that is THE BEST. I love that. I do remember that pic actually!

So much awesomeness.

I won a copy of Redshirts, but it was immediately stolen by my parents. They're HUGE Star Trek fans, though not quite to Trekkie levels.

I want to read this. seriously. And I'm judging it by its cover... because that is my method of picking out books from the library, most of the time.
