YAY! NEW BOOKS! *happy dance*
ReplyDeleteI'm excited to see Kate Brian's Shadowlands, that gorgeous cover just sent a shiver done my spine. I can just see myself borrowing it to just stare at. *o*
The White Forest looks gorgeously gothic as well.
I wanted to go on tour for Before The Rain, but I ultimately declined because of my busy upcoming school schedule. I look forward to reading your review for it...and hopefully I don't end up crying over not going on tour for it.
Blood Zero Sky - J. Gabriel Gates: I've been seeing quite a few books with that paper textured cover. Is it some trend? O_O
Lilian @ A Novel Toybox
The cover is what got me too, although I keep thinking it's a dystopia ala the birds, but then it's not. The plot sounds strange, but WHY NOT, right?
DeleteYES IT DOES.
Oh, school. I remember those days. You're so young and innocent.
*shrug* I haven't seen many, but you spend more time in SFF than I do.
Books=dystopia now? O_O
DeleteYAY FOR STRANGE PLOTS!
"You're so young and innocent."
I AM NINETEEN! That's almost two decades! THAT'S SO NOT YOUNG AND INNOCENT! I am all old and stuff! I can vote and paytaxes! I can't drink...but I can internationally!
You meant Birds=dystopia? I think it's the way they're circling like there's been much death, and there's a mood of eeriness. I don't know!
DeleteI'll be 25 in less than a month, so you're practically a baby. Like the scary one on the cover of Never Let Me Go.
ARE YOU SAYING I AM SCARY NOW? O_O
DeleteBut I would kill to have her porcelain skin and her big eyes.
19 is a baby? What are 16yr olds then?? embryos?
Bahahaha. WHY YOU NO WANT TO BE ASIAN?
DeleteNope.
17-20: baby
10-16: toddlers
5-9: embryos
0-4: twinkle in parents' eyes
Asians can have porcelain skin and big eyes!
DeleteYou'd be surprised at how pale Hong Kong...Koreans..Japanese are. And the amount of money they pour into skincare to get that pale. I swear 95% of the beauty commercials were for sun screen or whitening serum when I was in Hong Kong. And I felt SO TAN. DAMN IT, HAWAII!
I don't see how babies can be older than toddlers!
Well, they can, but that girl is not Asian. You said you wanted her skin and eyes.
DeleteKoreans are so pretty. Asians come in pretty much every shade. Also, I really don't know where on earth the slur of yellow skin came from. I have yet to see a yellow Asian. Maybe the guy who came up with that met a jaundiced Asian. Racial slurs are stupid.
Oh, oops. Backwards. Justification: maybe the hormones in your older years cause a backslide? Meh. Scratch that. Reverse it.
I can't retain my Asian-ness if I have her skin and eyes? What if I eat more rice and sushi?
DeleteAs for the yellow thing. My older sister told me about the time she attended our grandmother's funeral (I was a clueless baby back then) and how she saw our grandmother's body in the casket. And at that moment, she realized why the "yellow skin" racial slur existed.
Apparently deceased Asians are really yellow (I would prefer not to know firsthand.)
Ah, and there was a time when my aunt ate something really bad (theory) during her trip to rural China and something went terribly wrong with her liver. She had to get a transplant. That whole month or two of visiting her in the hospital felt like a blur, it just feels unreal that my high-energy aunt could suddenly end up unconscious on painkillers in ICU. I don't think I ever felt the intensity of the situation. Maybe I just have too much faith in medical technology? Though the doctors never figured out the root of the liver disease...
But anyway, SHE WAS REALLY YELLOW. Of course I couldn't say so, but it frightened me. She was a skinny woman as it is and she literally looked like skin and bones.
...if only that backside thing was legit...
Well, she's not Asian and you said you wanted to look like her. I am now trying to think about how you tell people apart and confusing myself.
DeleteEWWWW. I prefer not to think about deceased people either. WHY ARE OPEN CASKETS STILL A THING?
Jaundice turns people yellow and that's a liver condition. Livers do something that makes you yellow if you fuck with them. DON'T.
Now I am confused too! WE ARE CONFUSED TOGETHER.
DeleteTo give jobs to morticians and those people who put make up on dead people? After reading Dan Well's John Cleaver books, I am starting to feel a mortician expert. Ok, not really. But the main character is from a family of morticians.
For some reason I misinterpreted your sentence and thought it said : if you fuck with people that have a liver condition, you will turn yellow. And I was like "WHAT'S THIS WEIRD STD??"
Then I reread the sentence several times. I blame the word "fuck," and it's multiple meanings!
CONFUSION PARTY!
DeleteEwwww. I don't care about the morticians. Open caskets are GROSS. I mean, I guess the inner family could do open casket for whoever wants to see that, but the main service SHOULD BE CLOSED CASKET.
Eeesh. That is gross.
Ugh. I'm so jealous you have book two of Ashes! :) my first and only Zombie love. New follower!
ReplyDeleteIt's on NG!
DeleteExcuse while I 'll catch my breath! My bookish jealousy was choking me so hard I couldn't breathe :) Fabulous haul, Christina. Most of these books are on my wishlist and I can't wait to hear what you think of them, enjoy!
ReplyDeleteAwww, I know that feeling! I always have to remind myself that I'll get to read them EVENTUALLY.
DeleteThe White Forrest looks so good! Also, is your kitty okay? All the banging and falling and noises in the background made this video my favorite so far! Amazing!
ReplyDeleteHe's fine. He's just a little troublemaker sometimes. I don't even know what he was doing. Thankfully he's a hardy fellow with all the falling he does.
DeleteCongrats on the Edelweiss approval. I got frustrated with it very quickly, and now limit myself to Netgalley. I'm actually trying to restrain myself some more and stop clicking on the "read now" galley buttons. But I do love to get books from Harlequin Teen and Egmont USA!
ReplyDeleteI also searched for the Percy pictures. He's gorgeous! I have a special love for tabby cats; IMO they are the cutest breed :)
Yeah, I really need to chill out with digital requests. I'm okay with these, though, because I really DO WANT TO READ ALL OF THEM.
DeleteI'll have to catch Percy and make him put in an appearance in the video, as opposed to just banging around off screen. He's such a weirdo.
Holy crap! o.O You have been on the WAR PATH lately with your reviews. Way to go, Christina! :-) Looks like you scored some fabulous books last week, a few of which I'm jealous! Shadowlands and The Shadow Society look and sound amazing. Can't wait to hear what you think of them!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your lovelies, lovely <3
Well, if I ever want to catch up on my book challenge (yes, I definitely do), then I need to be on the war path!
DeleteThanks!
The White Forest = want.
ReplyDeleteEdelweiss is a fickle beast - I don't request much, but I have a far higher approval ratio than NetGalley. Go figure!
I'm so excited for The White Forest!
DeleteWeird! I have a fairly decent approval rate on NG, although now some pubs just never approve or disapprove, which is odd to me.
