15 Day Book Blogging Challenge, Day 4: The Art of Book Flinging

Okay, so I'm late boarding this train, but I want to be part of the fun too. I asked on Twitter for buddies, so that I wouldn't be alone in taking this epic journey. Thankfully, bloggers are awesome people, so I quickly found three friends to travel with me through the book blogger challenge: Lili of Lili's Reflections, Mickey of I'm a Book Shark and Jessie of Ageless Pages Reviews, so make sure you check out their responses too! Confession: I'm not a book flinger. This is an art I have not mastered. Basically, they have value, and, rather than fling it, I would gift it to an unsuspecting victim so they can also suffer and can commiserate. Clearly, I am a good friend to have.

I do not know why making friends is so difficult when I offer such perks.

Well, actually, I do fling a lot of my books, but not in an angry way, just in a "YAY! I finished you. Now it's time for the next, so please go be on the other end of the couch so I can deal with you later way.

It's like that, but with books across a couch.

BUT the last book that made me angry and made me consider flinging the book across the room was Jay Kristoff's Kinslayer. Oddly enough, this was a 5 star book for me, but ONE SCENE made me seriously unhappy and I definitely yelled out at the book and shook it menacingly, threatening a violent hurling across the room. However, much as damaging property does feel rather satisfying, I prefer it not to be MY property. So there you go. My last ragey feels. Which are also loving feels. Jay Kristoff's books give me a variety of feels.

WHY MUST YOU CRUSH MY HEART, JAY?

I'm fairly certain I was supposed to say one that I hated and made me ragey, so I'll do that too. So allow me to introduce The Flame in the Mist, the most boring middle grade ever, which decided to introduce weird incestuous themes right at the end, which had me going WTF EW. That was totally book toss worthy. I posted my ranty review yesterday if you want to see it.

How about you guys? Do you hurl books with the might of Trunchbull wielding a shot put? Do you toss them daintily? Yell them into submission?

Giselle said...: At first I was like WTF is book flinging? I have never ever thrown a book for any reason now do I think I ever would. Ok well maybe if someone attacks me which hasn't happened yet >.< I mean, poor book - it's not his/her fault if his/her mama is a mean hag who guts you with their emotional manipulation!! The only book I would hurt by burning in the fires of hell would be very bad ones like... Touch of Death, or Frozen (which I'm mailing out to Jenni tomorrow teehee).

Alexia Boesen said...: Okay so yeah I've flung one book recently. And it was really bad to the point of DNF. It was White Lines by Jennifer Banash. The other book worthy of being flung was on my Kindle so I didn't actually fling it, though I definitely wanted to. It was Frigid by JLA. Unknown said...: Nice Matilda reference. I'm not a book tosser, mostly because I do most of my reading on an ereader and would be way too scared of breaking it. I think the only book I've actually thrown was Breaking Dawn, back when I thought the Twilight books were worth reading. I think the books I remember I really wanted to fling was Everneath and Everbound, I couldn't stand Nikki at all. A Library Girl said...: I do not hurl, toss, or otherwise abuse books, even when I hate them. That would go against years of "do not damage books" training. It's funny, because I'm a librarian who occasionally has to weed books, and my favorite part of that task is seeing how loud a noise I can make when I toss the books that can't be sold into a recycle bin.

I'd hate to be a book flinger. What do book flingers do when they read e-books? I tend to yell at books that make me mad, which works well for both print and e-books. Although my next door neighbor probably sometimes thinks I'm crazy.; August 30, 2013 at 10:49 AM

Even if I hate it, I could trade it in at a used book store for another book (if it's not an ARC obvi) or give it to a blogger with lesser (jk different) taste. Sometimes my cat knocks books down and I'm like OMG BOOK ARE YOU OKAY, even if I didn't like it that much. Haha.

Anonymous said...: While I don't fling any books, I definitely roll my eyes at them. I'm like "Ya feel that, book? I think you are ridiculous." My eye roll is pretty impressive, if I do say so myself.

And like you, I am not a book thrower. Sometimes I wish I were, but I have never been that pissed off. I also mentioned Kinslayer! Emotional trauma at the hands of an ARC, I swear.

Noooooo I do not fling my books. I practically have a meltdown when I ask my fiancé to hand me my book and he tosses it at me. Even on the couch! NO! Those poor fragile book corner edges can't handle that distress. Maybe I'd be more willing to fling a nice, sturdy hardcover. lol Hasn't happened yet though.; August 30, 2013 at 6:48 PM

Unknown said...: I have literally thrown two books EVER: The Dark Tower by Stephen King, and Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer. *gag* When I threw BD, it landed in my closet and stayed there for about a month while I worked up the guts and worked down the gag reflex long enough to finish it. *shudders* I can't even with that one.
