A to Z Survey

Jamie of The Perpetual Page-Turner is amazing and creative at all times, and this time I'm going to be not lazy and do her survey. HURRAH! Check out her original post here!

Author You've Read the Most Books From:
Meg Cabot with 38 books. Ummm, yeah, I was a bit obsessed with her fiction for all of high school and college. What can I say. Incidentally, the second one is Janet Evanovich with 37. Before blogging, I was a lot better at becoming obsessed and working through an author's whole backlog of books.

Best Sequel Ever:
Gah, well, I don't know if this is actually the best sequel ever (which I'm going to define as book two exclusively), but Everbound by Brodi Ashton was the first one to pop into my head. Book one was really good, but Everbound totally awed me in every way.

Currently Reading:
All Our Yesterdays by Cristin Terrill (and I'll finish soon, Lili, I swear), Two Boys Kissing by David Levithan, and Al Capone Shines My Shoes by Gennifer Choldenko on audio, and, yes, I usually am reading three books at any given time.

Drink of Choice While Reading:
Given my druthers, it would definitely be some sort of alcoholic beverage, but generally it's just juice.

E-reader or Physical Book?
Physical book all the way, though e-readers have their uses, like vacation or gym - though I'm bad about that. *coughs*

Fictional Character You Probably Would Have Actually Dated in High School:
Well, I didn't really date in high school, but I feel like Archer from Populazzi might have been nice enough to befriend me, and he's such a sweet awesome guy with interests that I totally share.

Glad You Gave This Book a Chance:
Let's see. I think the last one that really surprised me with how much I liked it was Dairy Queen. It was actually a second (or maybe third) chance, but I really liked it this time, because sometimes format makes all the difference, as does context. I loved going through the whole series. Now I even want more books about D.J.!

Hidden Gem Book:
Let's see, I've been reccing this one to a bunch of people lately, so I'll do it again: A Long, Long Sleep by Anna Sheehan. If you're a fan of Cinder, I think Sheehan's novel is really worth trying, because it's also a sci fi fairy tale retelling.

Important Moment in Your Reading Life:
Discovering young adult fiction again when I was in college. It was actually Twilight that really got me into it, because my best friend and reading buddy recommended the series to me, and then I just went crazy. That was also the year of discovering manga. It was amazing.

Just Finished:
The Meme Plague by Angie Smibert

Kinds of Books You Won't Read:
Okay, well, I will read most kinds of books, but I avoid Christian fiction like a plague of locusts. (See what I did there? I'm pretty proud of myself.)

Longest Book You've Read:
The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas, weighing at 1462 pages in my edition. Also, I loved it.

Major Book Hangover Because Of:
Hmm, I'm not generally a book hangover person, but any Harry Potter book the first time is probably a safe bet.

Number of Bookcases You Own:
8, but one is a small three shelf.

One Book You Have Read Multiple Times:
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen is probably my most reread book. It's been several years now since I read it and I am itching for a reread.

Preferred Place to Read:
My couch. Though sometimes I cheat on the couch with my bed. :-p

Quote That Inspired You:
So many that I don't even know where to start to choose. :/ Here's the last one I really liked in an inspirational way: "It's like, I'm scared and there're a lot of ugly things, but I'd rather be shipwrecked on this lovely island than safe in a sad, gray cell." That's from Corey Ann Haydu's OCD Love Story.

Reading Regret:
That I didn't do much reading for fun during my first couple of years of college, because I hadn't figured out how to fit it in. Also, I regret that I'm not good at reading a single book from cover to cover in one sitting anymore. That used to be my thing. Sigh.

Series You Started and Need to Finish:
Every series in the world basically. Even with "All the Books Are Out" as a caveat, I'm the worst for this. How about the Unearthly series by Cynthia Hand. It's worse because I own the two books I've not read, and they're signed and everything.

Three of Your All-Time Favorite Books:
Deadline by Mira Grant, Fruits Basket by Natsuki Takaya, Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen

Unapologetic Fangirl for:
So many authors. How about A.S. King? I love her and I feel like she does not have 1/10 of the buzz she deserves for her talent. Ask the Passengers is my favorite of hers so far, but I was also seriously impressed by both The Dust of 100 Dogs and Everybody Sees the Ants.

Very Excited for This Release More Than All the Others:
Just One Year by Gayle Forman. I want it so hard, and Penguin has declared me undeserving, which means that I won't get to read it for-freaking-ever, since I almost never have time for non-review books and just this is me crying about my book blogger problems.

Worst Bookish Habit:
Probably reading multiple books at one time. It has its perks, like helping get me through slow books, but I think it might also be why I feel disconnected from a lot of the books I read. Maybe I need to change it up, but...change is hard. Also, my system helps me balance different reading priorities.

X Marks the Spot (Start at the top left of your shelf and pick the 27th book):
Which shelf? I guess I'll do all 8. Shelf 1:  Fever 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson, Shelf 2: The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, Shelf 3: If I Stay by Gayle Forman, Shelf 4: The Secret Year by Jennifer R. Hubbard, Shelf 5: Children of the Alley by Naguib Mahfouz, Shelf 6: Invisible Monsters by Chuck Palahniuk, Shelf 7: Cancer Ward by Alexander Solzhenitsyn, Shelf 8 (the ARC shelf):The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black

Your Latest Book Purchase:
Just yesterday I ordered a copy of The Night Itself by Zoë Marriott, because, for once, Book Depository actually had a book that's not available in the US yet. There's not even a US date for this one yet, and I wants it, so I made it happen.

ZZZ-Snatcher Book (Last Book That Kept You Up Way Late):
Okay, I'm not usually one to sacrifice my sleep, tbh. Like, if I just happen to read a really good book on a Saturday night, I might, but I really don't function without at least six hours of sleep, so I generally am just willing to wait. Even more so since I started blogging, because I have to write my reviews right when I finish or I probably never will, so I would have to be writing a review at like 4 AM and just no. All of that is to say that when Froi of the Exiles kept me up until 1:30 on a work night, it was a big deal. Also, I am wiped this week because of it.

I'd never actually heard of "A Long, Long Sleep" but it's going on my to-read list immediately because it sounds brilliant!

Also, I didn't know Meg Cabot HAD 38 books, and I used to consider myself quite a fan of hers! Maybe it's time for me to revisit.

Loving these A-Z, I might even break my lazy blogger habit and do it myself!

EVERBOUND. Totally on my list of awesome Book 2s as well. Unf. THAT CLIFFHANGER. NEVER SAW IT COMING. asdfjkl; I'm still heartbroken.

All Our Yesterdays EEEEEEEP. Though by your slow reading of it... are you not liking it that much?

A Long Long Sleep - why did I not know about this book? Sounds like I must read it. :D

D: You have Hallowed and Boundless SIGNED and you haven't read them? SAD. SERIOUS SAD. You should make time for that because that series is pretty darn awesome.

And YES to not sacrificing sleep. I can't do it. And reading makes me extra sleepy when I'm tired, so it just doesn't work for me to read deep into the night. I always write my reviews right after reading as well or I'll forget all my EMOTIONS so ha. TWINS.

SHE HAS SO MANY MORE THAN THAT.

It's awesome. You totally should!

OH MAN, I didn't see it coming either, but, when it did, my mind exploded and I was like OMG HOW DID I NOT SEE THAT, BRODI ASHTON YOU EVIL GENIUS.

Ha, I like it. The reason I'm going so slowly is because of my reading system and having spent a good deal of time with friends the last couple days. Not in love but I like it.

I KNOW. I buy these things and then...nothing. I do not know how to make time. Lol.

Yeah, if I force myself to stay up when I'm really tired, I'm like a skimming zombie, and it's not going to help my relationship with the book AT ALL. Sure, we lose some perspective since we are in the throes of emotion, but I think I prefer that method myself. Plus, I am never behind.

Preblogging I was the same way. I read all the books by whatever author I was currently reading, thus Nora Roberts was my number one author.

OMG I totally should have picked Everbound! *headdesk*

I tend to avoid the classics like the plague, but I will give it a shot... someday.

Man I can't remember the last time I wasn't reading at least two books at the same time. Since I got my ereader a couple years I am much more disciplined with reading just one print book, just one ebook and just one audiobook but I don't think I could cut back to just one at a time. I have reading ADD ;)

FRUITS BASKET YESSSSS. The tears I have shed over that series...

And I am adding A Long, Long Sleep to my TBR list as I type, because that sounds AWESOME.

Yesssssssssssss another person who doesn't seem to have the super-human ability to read until 6am and go to work at 7am. I always felt like I was being a bad reader for being able to put down a book and sleep at a decent hour.

Your promotion of A.S. King works - I would never have read Ask the Passengers without you pushing her stuff ;)

Oh, and reading ONE book is so 1993. I can't do it anymore either.

A - 38 is impressive! I've only read about seven Meg Cabot books myself.
B - EEP, I have high hopes for Everbound :D
H - I'm already convinced but OKAY. I'll buy it in three weeks, I promise!
I - Twilight seems to have brought a lot of readers to the YA genre. It's actually kind of sweet, the way everyone is connected like that.

You're just showing off with your eight bookshelves. I only have one and a half, and they're currently ugly because they're double stacked and dusty *cries*

But seriously, how do you feel about doing bookshelf tours on Youtube? I WANT TO SEE THE PRETTY.

You'll be happy to know that Amy bought me A Long, Long Sleep for my birthday, so I have that now. Don't know when I will get to it though. But I AM excited.

I used to be able to read books from cover to cover too. Mostly when I was younger, but I was still able to do it when I began blogging. But then editing came along and now I read to slow because I analyze every word. Also, I have a REALLY short attention span. That's why I was so in awe of your book-a-day challenge last year. :)

HOW FUN! I didn't know TWILIGHT was your gateway YA read. It seems to be a lot of people's. Crazy! And wow, EVERBOUND. I knew you liked it, but I wasn't expecting that to be one of your favorite sequels ever. Nice!

Oh yeah I used to love being able to work through an author's backlog. I suppose I still could do it now if I really wanted to, but I get distracted by so many other authors and books out there!
I've been meaning to read A Long, Long Sleep. Still disappointed that I didn't end up getting the ebook when it was a Kindle deal. Oh well. I'll read it eventually!
I used to read more than one book at a time, but I can't do it anymore. Especially because I tend to take some time after reading before writing a review. It would just end up leaving me so much more confused haha. I suppose I could solve that problem if I did write my reviews upon finishing, but I don't see that happening any time soon.

I sort of miss that, but, at the same time, some distance can be nice I guess.

Classics are fantastic. Well, some of them anyway.

Oh, that's pretty similar to what I do, only I usually have two print books going. One's for ARCs and one is Sadie Hawkins/finished review copies/free reads (assuming I ever get there).

I don't think I've ever cried, but it's SO rare that I do. Gah, it's the best though.

Nope. That is a thing I cannot do. Ideally I would get 8-10 hours of sleep a night, but I settle for 6. Less than that and I'm basically a zombie.

:)

Bahaha, it's the new thing. All the kids are reading multiple books.

HOW HAVE YOU NOT READ EVERBOUND YET?

Weee!

Yup, I will always have a bit of respect for Twilight because it brought me into YA fiction.

*pets bookshelves*

I can't figure out a good way to do it. I was thinking about doing a series of posts, but I don't have time right now because REVIEW PILE OF DOOM.

Way to go, Amy! Also, I do know how that is, so I will not proceed to shame you.

In high school, I would just sit down and read a whole book. Now I read a chapter and I'm like "NEED SOMETHING NEW NOW."

Yup. I'm not even ashamed. How could I regret something that brought me here?

Totally should have had Deadline as best sequel ever, but Everbound was fucking awesome.

That's one of those things I gave up. The more books I know about, the harder it is to dive into one author and just gobble it all up. I used to be a really picky reader, so if I found an author I loved, compulsively reading all of their stuff made sense. Now I like variety.

Oh yeah, I couldn't take a break after reading. I have to write them immediately. :p

I think Meg Cabot is my most-read author too (unless Ann M Martin counts because yeah, I read a ton of BSC books!) Glad to see you recommending A Long Long Sleep. I read it when it first came out and though I struggled with it at first, I think it was definitely worth the read. I hadn't thought of it in terms of Cinder but that's an apt comparison though I think ALLS is more literary.

I didn't even know Meg Cabot has 38 books!?! WOW.

Haha, I love your answer about avoiding Christian fiction like a plague of locusts ;) I agree .

AHH I need to read OCD Love Story!!

I love how you read multiple books at once. I do that sometimes but not as often as I once did. When I was younger I'd have like 3 to 5 books on the go somehow!

I didn't do this survey, but my co-blogger Katy did if you are interested in checking out her answers!
