Top Ten Books I Wish Could Have Had Sequels

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.
Okay, so this is totally going to be an exercise in fangirling and not based remotely in reality. Obviously, I won't be including series I've not finished in this list, since I don't know if I'll feel like I'm done with it. Otherwise, everything is FAIR GAME. Basically, these are the books or series where I'm like "That was awesome, but you know what?"

Like Ariel, I'm a greedy bitch.

1.  Anatomy of a Single Girl (Anatomy #2) - Daria Snadowsky

Maybe this is already in the works, but I've not heard anything yet. I want to see a non-depressed Dom in college living it up! And I sort of want her to get with Calvin or someone. She's at a point now where she can have a healthy relationship and I want to be there for that!

2. Beauty Queens - Libba Bray

TBH, I have no clue what would happen, but this book was HILARIOUS and I want more books in this style, mmmkay?

3. Shadows on the Moon - Zoë Marriott

Okay, so Shadows on the Moon is fantastic, and I definitely could do with more. Also, I think there's totally space for one. Trying to make my suggestion without spoiling anyone should be interesting, but I'm going to go for it. Basically, I would like a sequel set in Onieto's homeland that explores powers and such more. How badass would that be? INCREDIBLY BADASS.

4. Fruits Basket - Natsuki Takaya

What's that? Most of you don't care about manga? Well, I do, so deal with it. Fruits Basket is on my list of favorite things all time ever. I've read the series three or four times now, and at pretty much any point I would be willing to reread. If you're scared of manga but tempted and need a buddy, I WILL read this with you. I WILL find the time. That's how much I love it. Anyway, this is one of those cases where I am just completely in love with the characters and need to know more about them. Epilogue was not satisfying enough. I need more time to revel in my ships, and for ships to form for the ones who don't have anyone. MAKE IT SO.

5. Meant to Be - Lauren Morrill

I cannot be the only one who wants to see Julia go to college, can I? In Meant to Be, I liked the couple, but I don't see them lasting forever, so it would be awesome to see the breakup and recovery process in freshman year, because that's a common part of the college experience.

6. Lady Knight (Protector of the Small #4) - Tamora Pierce

Some of you may disagree with me, as I imagine Tamora does, since she probably wrote this just how she wanted it, but, for me, a Tamora Pierce series is not complete without the swoons. Kel needs herself a sexy man and some sex in general. It's not fair that the least feminine of Pierce's heroines ends up alone with only possible hints at a relationship. This must be rectified with a fifth book, tentatively titled...I'm not sure yet, since The Woman Who Rides Like a Man was taken.

7. Front and Center (Dairy Queen #3) - Catherine Gilbert Murdock

Like with Meant to Be, I think this would be a good series to continue onwards into college with, since it's really not wrapped around an HEA onto eternity. Sure, I do really want D.J. to get Brian Nelson, but, at the same time, that's not what the series was ALL ABOUT for me, so they would break up in college and date other people, and I would be totally okay with that. I just want to know how she does in her studies and basketball and everything!

8. Ascendant (Killer Unicorns #2) - Diana Peterfreund

You guys, I freaking love this series, but the ending of Ascendant did not feel like a period. There should be more. Most of the series on this list feel pretty complete to themselves, but could probably have more. In this case, I think more would make the story even stronger, because it felt like some questions were left lingering. Also, I just want more killer unicorns.

9. Nana- Ai Yazawa

This one's unique on my list as I actually haven't read what there is of Nana yet. I have, however, read some of her other works and loved them, and watched the anime while I was home sick one day. Here's the deal. Yazawa got really sick, and so this series went on hiatus at a crazy dramatic point, and all I'm saying is that I wish for Yazawa Ai to heal entirely and be able to finish the series.

10. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Harry Potter #7) - J.K. Rowling

Yeah, I know this will be on every single list ever, but I have no fucks to give about that. The epilogue was not nearly enough. I want to know every single detail of their lives and their kids' lives and on and on, okay? I'm in love with this world and there cannot be enough. Also, that Buzzfeed article that came out last week made me DESPERATE for the expanded universe to get going. I especially must know about Teddy Lupin and Victoire Weasley, because oh man do I ship it. I want all of this even though pretty much all of the kids have stupid names. That is how in love with all of this I am.

What say you? Anyone else want to see these sequels happen?

I thought about including HP, but I decided that the Epilogue left me perfectly satisfied. I would rather read a spin-off personally of HP!

Great list, Fruits Basket is my favorite series of all time so I'm so happy to find someone else that loves the series. While I actually loved the ending of the series I would love to just read a series dealing with the characters daily life for the rest of their lives because I love the characters and relationships so much in this series that I don't think I could ever get bored of the it even if nothing really happens in the series. Also I would volunteer to be a buddy for anyone who doesn't want to read Fruits Basket alone as well.

I've only read Beauty Queens (ugh), and Harry Potter from your list, so I don't feel like I have much input. BUT YESSSSSSSSSS HARRY POTTER. I want to know EVERYTHING, from the next generation's lives, the Founders, other wizarding schools (although, lbr, they would never live up to Hogwarts), the Marauders... EVERYTHING.

I'm not sure what could possibly happen in a Beauty Queens sequel but I would read it in a heartbeat as well.

Slightly unrelated, this is the first I've seen of the buzzfeed article and I thought Rowling said back when HP7pII came out that she approved of Luna and Neville and even though she didn't write that in the book she can see that happening. What happened to that? I want that!

YAY!So glad to find another lover of this series. I mean, I know it's immensely popular, but it's seriously my favorite one and it ranks with my very favorite books. And, yes, I could read anything about the characters. ANYTHING. For a while, I was even creating a fan fiction in my head, though with no intent to actually write it. Lol.

I agree, and I love how much all of the characters grow and change throughout, both mentally and physically. It really shows them develop and gah it's amazing.

You made me lol as usual. I love the ariel gif haha. I just read Anatomy of a BF and I'm excited to start book two. I hope she writes a book 3! And that buzzfeed HP thing was awesome, but made me wish there was more too. She should have done a series about the kids or about HP and the gang grown up. My TTT

This is twice I've seen Killer Unicorns on today's TTT now and this is only the second blog I've been to. o__O *adds to to-read list*

Dairy Queen - A follow up of DJ in college would be nice. I liked how realistic this series was.

Fruits Basket - YES! I'd really like to see Yuki's relationship develop, Kureno/Hana's and also Hatsuharu/Rin's. Of course, Kyo and Tohru's too. *__*

P.S. Have you heard of Shingeki no Kyojin/Attack on Titan?

Huh. I don't remember that. I was never into the Luna/Neville ship anyway. Too...obvious, I guess. Like, let's just stick the two awkward ones together just because.

P.S. Heard of it but not seen it or heard much about it other than that it's the best.

1. Still have to get to this one and the first book for review. Your reviews made me accept the request, but now I'm like this: o.O. How to catch up?? And "non-depressed" Dom--is she depressed in the others? Oh noes.

2. Not enough social satire in YA!

5. YES. As much as I loved goofball Jason and how he got Julia to loosen up, I don't see them lasting either. And I suppose that was a part of the point of MTB, but I AM SO WITH YOU. With the NA trend going strong, I'm a little surprised it hasn't happened yet (wasn't it a packaged book?).

More of Diana Peterfreund's work and some of Tamora Pierce's--stuff still left to try.

AND OMG THANK YOU FOR BUZZFEED HP ARTICLE.

I would not be able to make a list like this. I suppose mine would borrow from some others I'd seen - Statistical Probability, Meant to Be - and maybe add Witchlanders? There's something about this topic in general that I innately reject. Usually, even if the world is awesome, I just follow the author's next work rather than hope for something else to happen.

OMG I JUST NOTICED THE GIF. Yes. And the lighting for it too o.O. (Also reminds me of Jellicoe Road, which still hasn't reached the top of your SHS pile. *weary sigh*)

Haha. I love the Ariel Gif. Love that song. Anyway, I had a terrible time with this topic, and ended up switching it a bit. I loved Beauty Queens, too! I don't know if I am dying for a sequel, perse, but I would love more books like that. Did you listen to the audio? Libba Bray narrates and she's amazing.

We are brain twins because I almost, ALMOST picked Shadows on the Moon for my list as well, and for the exact same reasons you did. I wish I had put it down now. O_o

Blogger Amanda said...

I still need to read Shadows on the Moon, despite having owned it for a while now. Eventually I shall.
You know, I do agree about the Protector of the Small series. I want Kel to have her happily-ever-after and a guy to go with it. I am a diehard Kel/Neal shipper though, and since I know that doesn't work out I'm not sure who I want her to end up with. Dom maybe? Pierce could have fixed this problem too by alluding to Kel and a suitor/boyfriend/husband in the Daughter of the Lioness books, but I don't recall that ever being mentioned. le sigh.
I am reading Rampant right now! And directly moving on to Ascendent. I hope that the ending is satisfactory enough, even if there are a few lingering questions.
Great picks, Christina!

Awwww, that makes me sad. I'm not entirely sure what you mean by spazzy, but they are odd. I find most manga have a really quirky cast, though. Yay for Shadows on the Moon!

Blogger Christina said...

1. Ah, no no. She's not depressed the whole time in the books. But she IS depressed during the bits where you see her at college because of relationship troubles. About 3/4 of the first book is set in high school/at her hometown for the holidays, and most of the second takes place over her summer vacation after freshman year. So that's why. I want to see more of her actually BEING in college.

2. Nope!

5. Yeah, I actually asked Lauren at book club if she saw them as an HEA, and she said she didn't. They're good for each other right now and that's about it, which is perfect and the vibe that I'd gotten.

YOU ARE WELCOME

Statistical Probability could use a sequel to take on the instalove in the first. Ah, there were a lot of books where I loved them but not quite enough to want more. Just depends really.

Bahaha, that gif makes me so happy!

Sorry, girl. The random.org gods are fickle!

August 7, 2013 at 9:14 AM
Blogger Christina said...

That's totally my song that I sing when I don't get new books in the mailbox and know I'm being absurdly sad. Like, you have enough. BUT I WANT MOOOOORE.

Yeah, in that case I don't think I would want a sequel so much as a companion. Something with the same humor, but probably a really different setting. The events of the first book would probably just be a headline or something.

Oh cool! Will be curious what you think of it!

There just wasn't enough page time for all the couples. Particularly the rooster because he only appeared so late in the series!! There needs to be a whole slew of side stories featuring each pairing. They also released a voice comic of the last chapter last year. The FEEELS.

Shingeki is fantastic! And the anime studio producing it does an excellent job adapting the manga (which has a rawer and grittier feel to it). So many feels, always full of surprises (you think you know all you can about the titans and a few chapters later that knowledge is challenged) and lots of great characters.
