Cover Reveal Thursday (1)

I adore covers, so for my own sake and yours, I'm going to share some recent cover reveals and my thoughts on them. Mostly though, it's just about the pretty. Enjoy!

Willful Impropriety: 13 Tales of Society, Scandal, and Romance - edited by Ekaterina Sedia

Thoughts: Love it. It's both classy and vaguely menacing. Has kind of a steampunk feel to it, although I'm pretty sure it's not steampunk.

Pushing the Limits - Katie McGarry (UK Cover)

Thoughts: I much prefer the US cover. This one looks like a melodramatic book from the early 90s. No thanks.

Time Between Us - Tamara Ireland Stone

Thoughts: I like this one and the US cover pretty much equally. Not in love, but it's not bad either.

A Shimmer of Angels - Lisa M. Basso

Thoughts: Pretty. So pretty. I'd never heard of it, and I tend not to like angel books, but it was promptly added to my list of things to read someday because of the cover.

Ashes / Shadows - Ilsa J. Bick

Thoughts: In addition to revealing the cover of the second book in the Ashes Trilogy, they also revealed the cover for the paperback. I will be the first to admit that the cover for book one was highly creepy and rather ugly, however I do think that the first one better captured the mood of the series. These look like James Patterson YA covers to me, thus not good enough for Bick. Most of the blogosphere seems to like them, but I do not.

The Friday Society - Adrienne Kress

Thoughts: Love it. Steampunk covers are just the best. This one was promptly added to my to read list.

League of Strays - L. B. Schulman

Thoughts: Kinda lame. Also I'm endlessly amused by the fact that the romantic lead looks like a young James Frain.

Falling Kingdoms - Morgan Rhodes

Thoughts: Very high fantasy, which is true. However, I would not have guessed this was a YA cover. Nor would I have thought this was marketed to fans of Kristin Cashore. After reading the blurb, I added this to my list, but the cover alone didn't do it for me.

Poison Princess - Kresley Cole

Thoughts: I find this cover both pretty and off-putting. I like the dress, but both the models look like they want to kill me, and he looks old. Or it could be because I can tell that I will definitely read this and probably hate it. This cover is a trap.

Small Medium at Large - Joanne Levy

Thoughts: I like this cover better than the previous one, but I'm still not in love. Then again, it's a middle grade and I tend not to find those too appealing.

Astarte's Wrath - Trisha Wolfe

Thoughts: Gorgeous! Can this possibly have anything to do with the book? Is her hair really purple? I don't care! It's pretty! Check out my cover reveal post for the blurb!

Skylark - Meagan Spooner

Thoughts: Pretty, but not particularly eye-catching. I'm not wowed.

Alice in Zombieland - Gena Showalter

Thoughts: I am requesting this the moment it appears on NetGalley. Pretty, dark and humorous. Digging it. Reminds me a little of the Pretty Amy cover.

My favorite cover is that last one. But, I got really confused because there's a different book that already exists with the same title. And I found it for someone the other day at my bookstore. And the plots can't be too different, right?

That one appears to be a quirk classics type thing. No idea about the plots, since I haven't read either. Challenge yourself!

Oh, I forgot to mention which was my favorite: That would be The Friday Society, I think.

I really like the cover for Willful Impropriety. AND also for The Friday Society!

Not a huge fan of Small Medium Large because the circle looks awkward or that Angels cover because it's too busy.

I'm really digging the cover for Time Between Us. It's super simple, but it's the one the grabbed at me the most. I love how clean looking it is.

It could just be that I'm getting tired of super busy, heavily brushed covers with tons of embellishments, though XD.

In theory, I totally agree with you about the overly edited covers, but, unfortunately, I still love them, even though I judge myself for it.
