Top Ten Most Anticipated 2013 YA Titles

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.
As a blogger, it's a bit difficult to come up with a list like this (hear me out), mostly because 2013 has ceased to really mean 2013 to me. I mean, I read one of my most anticipated 2013 debuts in June, people. Release dates don't have that much meaning to me anymore. I'm just going to exclude the ones I've already read (sorry Level 2 and Dualed), who probably would have made the list), and assume that I won't get to the ones that I might get to before the end of 2012.

Basically, though, the real list would be over a hundred books long, so really these are just the first ones I thought of.

Teeth - Hannah Moskowitz

Expected Publication Date: January 1

Why? Because Kat Kennedy of Cuddlebuggery said so. Also, because it's GLBT and sounds unlike any other book I've ever heard of, so BRING. IT. ON.

Just One Day - Gayle Forman

Expected Publication Date: January 8, 2013

Why? Well, for one thing, I freaking loved If I Stay and Where She Went. Also, April of Good Books and Wine read this already and fangirled all over the place, which usually is a pretty sure sign that I will be doing the same as soon as I get to read it.

Shades of Earth - Beth Revis

Expected Publication Date: January 15

Why? Honestly, I wasn't super impressed with Across the Universe. I mean, it was good, but not stop-the-presses-this-is-my-favorite-thing-ever-flailingly-awesome. In fact, I put off reading A Million Suns for like a year. I finally read it this past August and it was such an improvement on the first book. Also, where the story left off leaves SoE poised to be just utterly mind-blowing. Usually, series do not steadily improve with each volume, but I think Revis' will, and props for that.

Scarlet - Marissa Meyer

Expected Publication Date: February 5

Why? Ummm, hello, Cinder was AWESOME and part of my new favorite subgenre (science fiction fairy tales), so of course I am hella stoked for Scarlet. I actually have a review copy, which I'll probably get to read very soon, but, whatever, I've been dying for this book since I finished Cinder. Also, the early review by Steph of Cuddlebuggery, who I often agree with, has me muppet-flailing with excitement.

Out of the Easy - Ruta Sepetys

Expected Publication Date: February 13

Why? Sepetys' debut Between Shades of Gray was great, and touched on subjects that have been heretofore ignored by young adult fiction. This one sounds slightly less original, but the early reviews have me completely stoked to read it. Both Ashleigh Paige of The YA Kitten and Heather of Flyleaf Review loved it, and neither of them is particularly easy to get a 5 star review out of.

Dark Triumph - R.L. LaFevers

Expected Publication Date: April 2

Why? Grave Mercy was one of my favorite reads this past year, so of course I am wanting to get my hands on this one, despite the disappointingly lame cover. I can only hope I love it as much as the first book in the series.

Dance of the Red Death - Bethany Griffin

Expected Publication Date: April 23

Why? Masque of the Red Death was awesome and I have to know what happens, okay? This cover disappoints me, but I need more of the eerie gothicness of this series. Also, I'm not sure which way this love triangle will go, and I eat that kind of drama up, as long as there are no obviously incorrect protestations of love.

The Program - Suzanne Young

Expected Publication Date: April 30

Why? Of all of the new dystopian series and standalones heading our way in 2013, this one is the one I have the highest expectations of awesomeness for. I mean, I've heard good things about Suzanne Young as an author, and it deals with mental disorders, which sounds incredibly cool and creepy. In fact, it sounds a bit like The Glimpse, but maybe will hopefully do better.

The Moon and More - Sarah Dessen

Expected Publication Date: June 4

Why? It's freaking Sarah Dessen. Not putting this on my list would be a crime to YA fiction or something. She's insanely talented at writing both sweet and gut-punching books.

A Darkness Strange and Lovely - Susan Dennard

Expected Publication Date: July 23

Why? Again, I loved the first book, Something Strange and Deadly. Eleanor is sassy and dangerous when armed with a parasol. That's my kind of girl, okay. I want more of it RIGHT NOW. Or...you know...in July. *weeps*

1. You have to read the Mara Dyer series because next year I'm going to freak out and need to discuss lol : )

2. OMG I want to read Just One Day too.

3. I have Out of the Easy ARC if you want. I wasn't a fan and am looking to unload it if you want.

1. I will definitely read at some point. I've heard they're worth reading, even if they are incredibly frustrating at many points.

2. I have an ARC and it is calling to me.

3. Actually, I have one, but I appreciate the offer!

Haha, oh, our poor tbr piles. They're seriously like an avalanche: there's no winning, only being buried.

Teeth and The Program were both so close to making my list. It was so hard to pick just 10!
Also, why had I not seen the cover for Dance of the Red Death yet? I blame you...(what..you show me most covers first, this makes logical sense to me.) I loved Masque of the Red Death. (Hey, we agree on another book!)
I really need to read Cinder soon-ish.

I know, right? It's like torture. THERE CAN ONLY BE 10!

Ha, that cover was in Cover Snark, so...that's all on you! I guess you need to read Cover Snark more regularly. ;)

Awesome list! I will probably love Teeth, but for some reason I am afraid of that book because of the whole mermaid thing.

Yes on Out of the Easy. I won a copy today and I am dancing all over my living room.

Yes on the new Sarah Dessen, A Darkness Strange and Lovely (the title and cover-woot!), and pretty much yes on the rest of them too. <3

That's why I was initially skeptical about Teeth too, but everything seems to say that it is the mermaid book to rip all other mermaid books to shreds of inferiority, so I'm going for it. Also, I love GLBT books!

Maybe we can read Out of the Easy at the same time. lol!

Dennard does have wonderful titles!

I'm reading Scarlet right now. It's not quite as awesome as Cinder, but I really do like it. Unfortunately there's this "He's scary but kinda inexplicably sexyish so I'll follow him across the country" thread going on that's kind of taking it away from me. Also, a lot less is happening action-wise than I'd like. But I still love Meyer's writing and the world she built so it makes up for it.

Boo, that would be a fail on my part then.
Wonder if it was before I discovered you? Sigh, now I must go hunt up every edition of cover snark EVER ;)

Scarlet and Shades of Earth are 2 of my most anticipated books for next year too ... I think I'm excited about way more books than I can possibly read!

OMG there are MORE books that we've both liked! I really liked MASQUE OF THE RED DEATH, and I liked SOMETHING STRANGE & DEADLY too! I'm also insanely excited about the Gayle Forman book. Girl, what is this?! Why do we suddenly agree on more books?! lol

On a side note, I knew you would appreciate this - my plans changed over here in Asia, and I get to go to SEOUL! FOR NINE DAYS!!! I basically flailed for like 15 minutes after I bought my ticket lol

I'm seriously considering sending secret agents around to steal your copy of Just One Day. Nothing personal, of course ;-)

Well, if those agents are hot, single men with accents, then I think I'll allow it. If I get to keep one of them. ;)

OMGGGG Just One Day was amazing! Please get to that ASAP. I'm super excited for Out Of The Easy as well. Between Shades of Grey was incredible! Your post also reminds me that I need to read Across The Universe as I saw the newest book on a lot of lists!

Haha, I will! So funny! I JUST commented on your Just One Day review.

You should so read Across the Universe. Just remember that it's a bit slow, especially in book one, but that it keeps getting better!

First - I am definitely a little jealous that you have Things I Can't Forget. I really, really hope you love it. And if you don't... for the sake of all that is good please DO NOT TELL ME!!!

I'm excited about Just One Day, but I should probably read If I Stay/Where She Went first.

Out of Easy looks awesome. I still have to read Masque of Red Death. It's just chillin on my shelf right now. I want to read Scarlet, but I'm not dying for it. I definitely need to read some more Sarah Dessen.

Bahahaha, I doubt I'll dislike it, but I won't tell you if it's lower than a 4. :-p

I'm reading Just One Day right now, and I don't think it matters which one you read first. They're both great, so it's not like it's worse to start in one place than another.

Read all of those things!

I AM SO PUMPED ABOUT ALL OF THESE.

Most especially out of the easy because Between Shades Of Gray was such a special book.

And omg. Omg.

You will love Just One Day, I hope. If not, that's okay. BUT AHHH. So, so, good.
