Cover Snark (43): Angels of a Feather Flock Together

Welcome to Cover Snark, where the people are snarky and the covers quiver in fear. Since I don't write many snarky book reviews here on A Reader of Fictions, Cover Snark is my outlet. If you click on the title of the book, where possible, I've linked to Goodreads. Clicking on the cover itself will show you the cover in a larger size, in most cases. Feel free to love covers I hate and vice versa. Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

Commenting pro tip: The easiest way to comment on such a long post is to open the post in two windows (really easy if you use Google Reader). Comment in one and scroll the covers in the other. That's actually how I comment on other people's reviews too. I can't remember all my comments by the time I get to the box!

Shiny & New:

1. The Year of Shadows - Claire Legrand
Thoughts: NGL, this is a bit of a letdown after the awesomeness of the Cavendish cover, but I do like it. I especially love how grumpy both the girl and her cat are. I probably look that annoyed when someone interrupts my reading or writing too. Also, the creepy house is fantastic, and the stairs are great.

2. Rags & Bones: New Twists on Timeless Tales - Melissa Marr & Tim Pratt, eds.
Thoughts: Me: Okay, but not really doing anything for me. Swan: HONK! Me: Sorry, Swan! At least you're not an ugly duckling!

3. Found (The Crescent Chronicles #3) - Alyssa Rose Ivy
Thoughts: Bahahahaha, mini-wings. You know what they say about a man with small wings, don't you?

4. Red and the Wolf - Laura Lee Nutt
Thoughts: Embracing ever after seems like it would be uncomfortable. Sometimes you really want to not be embracing. Actually, though, I like this, except for standard Fabio-style dude.

5. The King's Lady - Shannan Albright
Thoughts: This really grosses me out. *insert dual wielding or crossing swords joke here*

6. The Bone Season (The Bone Season #1) - Samantha Shannon
Thoughts: Why does Bloomsbury put their name on their covers? This looks like a middle grade, not a YA. I like the colors, but it's not grabbing me, maybe because of the strange way the letters and clock hands are fighting for the foreground?

7. Light in the Shadows (Find You in the Dark #2) - A. Meredith Walters
Thoughts: Why are there so many covers of people kissing like this? Does anyone do this a lot in real life?

8. Eternal (Winterhaven #3) - Kristi Cook
Thoughts: Anyone else think all the covers for this series are monstrously lame?

9. Heart of Obsidian (Psy-Changeling #12) - Nalini Singh
Thoughts: He's striding INTO the burning city? Common sense FAIL.

10. Still Life in Brunswick Stew - Larissa Reinhart
Thoughts: Based on the title, I thought this would look a lot worse. Actually, it's pretty funny, and I love the fonts.

11. Immortally Ever After (Monster M*A*S*H #3) - Angie Fox
Thoughts: This wins for the series name. Also, it uses yellow as a main color and I don't hate it, which is cool.

12. On Every Street (The Artists Trilogy #0.5) - Karina Halle
Thoughts: I don't like this one as much as Karina's other recent covers. It's a little too dark (in color, not subject). Also, I really hope that Ellie/Eden is about to bite Javier's ear off. He deserves that.

13. Forty Days (Neima's Ark #1) - Stephanie Parent
Thoughts: Things I like: the water, the period costumes on the models. Things I don't like: weird red swirly doodads, awkward kiss, poorly photoshopped ark and bird that attract lightning

14. The Red Order (Order of the Seers #2) - Cerece Rennie Murphy
Thoughts: The series name should never ever be larger than the installment's title. This is okay otherwise, but totally generic.

15. Blood Echo - Melissa Simonson
Thoughts: Okay, I actually think this is pretty hilarious and awesome, except that the tag line really upsets me. Obsession is not the same thing as love, people. It's just not.

16. Troubled Daughters, Twisted Wives: Stories of the Trailblazers of Domestic Suspense - Sarah Weinman, ed.
Thoughts: So I totally love the old-timey, self-mocking vibe on this. It's perfect for the content!

17. Crack the Darkest Sky Wide Open - Various Authors
Thoughts: Is the lighter area supposed to look like something? Person: How do I crack the sky open? I can't even jump very high. Birds: CAW.

18. Beautiful Goodbye (Beautiful Series #1) - Chandin Whitten
Thoughts: This goodbye is not actually beautifully. Most things soaked in pepto bismol aren't, actually.

19. Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls: Essays, Etc. - David Sedaris
Thoughts: I liked this until I decided it looked like the owl is sitting on a syringe. Is that necessary?

20. Speak of the Devil - Shawna Romkey
Thoughts: More awful angel wings. What a great day this is. Fantasy carrion birds are circling for the death of good covers.

21. Curtsies & Conspiracies (Finishing School #2) - Gail Carriger
Thoughts: She looks so much like Olivia Wilde! I love the campiness of these covers. I like intentional silliness.

22. Consume (The Clann #3) - Melissa Darnell
Thoughts: Yikes. This needs...something. Or less something. I don't know. But it's not working for me. Just too much red and white.

23. The Stager - Jaidis Shaw
Thoughts: Cover designers, wonky eyes are not your friends. Nor is the mistiness or the crazy font.

24. The Dark Prince (Dark Light #2) - S.L. Jennings
Thoughts: DAMN IT. What did I just say about wonky eyes? NOT COOL.

25. Cold Spell (Fairytale Retellings #4) - Jackson Pearce
Thoughts: Everyone knows that I was NOT PLEASED by the redesign for Jackson Pearce's covers. However, I think the new style works so much better for Cold Spell. The mirror has a lot more meaning and looks less lame than the other floating emblems. Plus, I think the darker color scheme makes the cover less cheesy.

26. The Beast Within (The Elite Series #1) - Jonathan Yanez
Thoughts: Oh. My. Why? More crazy eyes. Also, advice for authors: don't release a pixellated version of your cover. This is what was on the cover reveal post. Bad call.

27. Identity Crisis - Eliza Daly
Thoughts: I know I've seen that girl before, but I can't remember what cover. What's hilarious is that dude. Is that sexy to anyone?

28. The Falconer - Elizabeth May
Thoughts: I like all of the elements of this cover, but it's too much or something. Or maybe it's her facial expression I'm struggling with.

29. Going Under - S. Walden
Thoughts: O_O Oh, it's new adult. Well, that explains it.

30. Relativity (Sage Hannigan Time Warper #2) - Peggy Martinez
Thoughts: I like her style. However, that font needs to go.

31. Allegiance Sworn (The Light Blade #3) - Kylie Griffin
Thoughts: BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

32. Saved at Sunrise (Shadow Falls #4.5) - C. C. Hunter
Thoughts: The girl's body really looks photoshopped onto there. So many fantasy birds.

33. Kitty in the Underworld (Kitty Norville #12) - Carrie Vaughn
Thoughts: Kitties!

34. This Wicked Game - Michelle Zink
Thoughts: I like it. The skull on the gate is a nice touch, especially juxtaposed with the flower on the other side.

35. SEAL of Honor (Hornet #1) - Tonya Burrows
Thoughts: More like Abs of Honor.

36. Volition (Perception #2) - Lee Strauss
Thoughts: Snooze.

37. Strange Fates (Nyx Fortuna #1) - Marlene Perez
Thoughts: Oddly enough, I like this! He's not trying to be super sexy and it's kind of funny.

38. Darkness Unmasked (Dark Angels #5) - Keri Arthur
Thoughts: Ew. Those wings. Just STAHP. Also, I question the wisdom of orange font for that green background.

39. The Coldest Girl in Coldtown – Holly Black
Thoughts: Love the font, but this is really the best they could do? A hand on a wallpaper background. Does the hand freak anyone else out? Look at it closely; it's gross.

40. Straight Jacket - Meredith Towbin
Thoughts: Alert the media: I actually like this cover with angel wings on it! AND it's a small press. Of course, the fact that the wings aren't on a person helps, but they also look like real feathers. Oh, and I love the font and the colors a whole lot.

41. Awakening (Tankborn #2) - Karen Sandler
Thoughts: Yes! Another one I love, with the small exception of the hard to read words (Freedom, Humanity, Equality). Look at that gorgeous POC model and that fantastic green font.

42. The Subterranean Strategem (The Extraordinaires #2) - Michael Pryor
Thoughts: This one's pretty too, except for two things: 1) The lock does not look convincing hanging from the titles. 2) The series title is bigger than the book's title.

43. Pretenders - Lisi Harrison
Thoughts: *spends too long trying to figure out what's going on in that text in the background*

44. Don't Kill Dinner (The Rules Trilogy #1) - Jessica Martinez
Thoughts: I like the redhead. The title font is interesting, as well, but otherwise pretty boring.

45. Death, and the Girl He Loves (Darklight #3) - Darynda Jones
Thoughts: Surely if we put kids with backpacks beneath the models, they will look like teens. Surely. We won't even need to shave him. What a good plan.

46. Betrayals of Spring (Forever Fae #2) - L.P. Dover
Thoughts: Did someone bury her in the grass?

47. The Saints (Quarantine #2) - Lex Thomas
Thoughts: Copying Monument 14, are we? I mean, they actually crossed a school bus into a building in that one.

48. Down London Road (On Dublin Street #2) - Samantha Young
Thoughts: "She thinks she knows what she wants until he shows her what she needs." Ew.

49. Trust in Me (Friends and Lovers #3) - Bethany Lopez
Thoughts: More awkward kissing. I also spent a long time figuring out that the skin in the foreground was her hand.

50. Unnatural Creatures: Stories Selected by Neil Gaiman - Neil Gaiman, ed.
Thoughts: The cover in which the publisher tries to trick people into buying an anthology by pretending it's solely written by Neil Gaiman. Fun times!

51. Stay - Jennifer Silverwood
Thoughts: Wow, gorgeous.

52. Road Rage - Jessi Gage
Thoughts: I don't think I can come up with anything nearly as hilarious to say about this as what the blurb already says: "He has anger issues and she has amnesia, but together they have amazing chemistry." This sounds like a recipe for disaster, no?

53. Pitch Perfect (Boys of Summer #1) - Sierra Dean
Thoughts: More candidates for the awkward kissing award, and they're upping the ante with a boob grab. He's just made it to first base and he's heading for second!

54. Marie Antoinette Serial Killer - Katie Alender
Thoughts: Bahaha, this is AWESOME. I love that it's got some classic charm, but also the blood spatter of a zombie novel cover. Add in the punning tag line and I am a happy girl.

55. White Trash Zombie Apocalypse (White Trash Zombie #3) - Diana Rowland
Thoughts: Speaking of zombie blood spatter, this is too much for me. I can't look at it.

Cover Battles:

1. Goddess (Starcrossed #3) - Josephine Angelini
US vs. Italy: Okay, so I don't like the US one much, but the ridiculous pose of the Italian cover is the worst. Winner: US for not having the dead heroine float in the sky.

2. Entwined with You (Crossfire #3) - Sylvia Day
UK vs. US: It's a head to head of perfume bottle versus luggage tags. Much as I wouldn't have thought I would prefer luggage tag cover, I find the perfume bottle upsetting for some reason.

3. Cheating Death - Jen Naumann
Thoughts: Wow. Neither of them really did much with this stock photo. However, the closeup is much better, because how creepy does the hand look? Seriously, scissor hands. Winner: The Unquiet for better font and cropping.
The Unquiet by Jeannine Garsee vs. Cheating Death:

4. Tarnish (The Royal Circle #2) - Katherine Longshore
Take 1 vs. Take 2: I do admit that the first version is a bit odd, since the model looks more Catherine of Aragon than Anne Boleyn. However, this is the third redesign for the series already and, for some reason, it looks like Hannah Moskowitz's Teeth. Winner: Take 1.

5. Nailed - Cindy Spencer Pape
Original vs. Redesign: Wow. Well, much as I hate muscle bound man with popping veins, it wins by a lot. Winner: Redesign. Good call.

6. Seraphina (Seraphina #1) - Rachel Hartman

Original vs. Redesign: So Seraphina's a middle grade now? That color combo looks so childish. Winner: Original.

WTF of the Week:

1. Betrayal - Stacy Claflin
Thoughts: Yet another designer who is frenemies with Photoshop. I especially love the use of shading. It just all blends so realistically.

2. What Really Happened in Peru (The Bane Chronicles #1) - Cassandra Clare & Sarah Rees Brennan
Thoughts: They make so much fucking money off of this series, yet the covers still look like utter shit. Really? It's a hand with some magic vapors. Great. Before I saw the author names, I really thought this was a self-pub, especially because of the ridiculous title.

3. A Story of God and All of Us - Roma Downey and Mark Burnett
Thoughts: The producer of Survivor, the angel from Touched by an Angel, and buddy Jesus would like you to buy this book. What is this book? Well, first there was The Bible. Then they made it into a miniseries. THEN they wrote a novelization of the miniseries. AND FINALLY they made a young readers edition of the adult novelization. So, basically, this is what The Bible would be like if you ran it through a game of telephone.

1. The Year of Shadows - It's nice but with all the hype surrounding it's bit by bit reveal I actually expected something more. o__o

2. Rags & Bones: New Twists on Timeless Tales - Meh

3. Found - Heh. I thought this was good for an indie. It certainly looks like a lot of those PNR romances out there.

4. Red and the Wolf - This only made me want to read Scarlet (Marissa Meyer) more.

5. The King's Lady - Um..

6. The Bone Season - Meh. No idea why, they could have stamped their logo instead of name. Or none.

7. Light in the Shadows - I like this one! But holding that post must be painful for the dude. :) I'm starting to recognize this designer's style, she did a lot of indie covers.

9. Heart of Obsidian - Another letdown. It's nice and all but there was so much hype surrounding it. I enjoy the series but the book covers really don't match.

12. On Every Street - Not a fan of this one. Or the newly revealed Sins #2 cover.

13. Forty Days - Sometimes it makes me wonder if it's the author or the artist decided that they wanted to add certain things to the cover. This is such a far cry from the Sins & Needles/EiT series covers, which was done by the same designer..

18. Beautiful Goodbye - Ew.

21. Curtsies & Conspiracies - She reminds me of Natalie Portman. :D

22. Consume - So washed out looking.

23. The Stager - Color scheme reminds me of the cover awhile back with flaming eyebrows girl.

26. The Beast Within - I'm fine with wonky eye color but the guy's face is too smooth.

28. The Falconer - The image itself is great, might have liked it better if the text wasn't diagonal.

32. Saved at Sunrise - Probably because theres no light around her.

33. Kitty in the Underworld - Why do they need to add 'first time in print'?? It's not like the book was released in ebook long before..was it?

39. The Coldest Girl in Coldtown - I like the creepy faces in the wallpaper. :D

40. Straight Jacket - Love how dynamic this cover looks!

41. Awakening - Love the colors but I'm not a fa of how cut out the face looks. Also had no idea the yellow stuff below the title were words until you pointed it out. o.o

45. Death, and the Girl He Loves - I kind of liked the first cover but as the series goes, less and less..

48. Down London Road & 49. Trust in Me - Meh.

51. Stay - Not sure if I want to stay there. Looks dangerous!

53. Pitch Perfect - Ew

55. White Trash Zombie Apocalypse - I liked the previous one a lot. This, ummm...

======================

Cover Battles:

3. Cheating Death - I'm not sure I would want to change the photo much either because it looks lovely. :D

2. Tarnish - Historical noob here so I have no idea of the resemblance. But the first cover is definitely more captivating.

6. Seraphina - New color scheme is awful!

======================

WTFs

2. What Really Happened in Peru - Apparently this is the first of 10 parts and they will form a full final cover. o.o

So I had ten min before I had to leave for work this morning and I was totally like "Ten min is plenty of time for cover snark." Yeah... Not so much (go ahead and laugh!)

3. They are really ugly wings too.

5. ewwww

6. I like the cover, but why are there two 6's?

8. Look! It's a butterfly! I've never seen one of those on a cover before...

11. That tattoo is totally fake.

15. This cover is really appeal and def something I would pick up in a book store.

16. Win! Love the old school look!

18. Washed out pink doesn't work for me either.

21. I pretty much love all her covers.

25. I think this cover is gorgeous!

27. I feel like he should have fangs because that's the only way that expression would work.

39. That hand totally weirds me out. There's something really wrong with it!

50. Trickery! I totally didn't catch that at first glance!

54. This cover is awesome. I'm not normally a fan of blood spatter because I don't like looking at it, but this is just a touch so it's not a problem. Plus the title is awesome.

55. I've never liked any of these covers, but I also don't like zombies so...

CB 3. The Unquiet is considerably better.

CB 5. Neither.

39. I think what bothers me most about this image is that it's (arguably) alluding to cutting. Notice the sharp ends of the font above the wrist and the extremely pale skin tone – it makes an image that's a little disturbing to say the least. That could be deliberate, though; maybe the MC in the story died from cutting herself? I'm probably reading reading too much into this but that's just my two cents :/

1. The hype on this one isn't as bad as for Gretchen McNeil's, which started a full week early. Guess what? I don't care that much. At least she did something new and interesting each day, so I didn't mind the reveal for Year of Shadows.

3. It is good for an indie, but I have a thing about angel wings and not wanting them to look shitty. He could never fly with those and they're...furry? What's that about?

4. I approve. You should do that.

7. Yeah, I don't know who the designer is, but I'm pretty sure I can recognize them too. Designer should branch out.

12. Just looked up Shooting Scars and I have the exact same problems with it that I have with this one. Sigh.

13. I don't really know. I LOVED The Devil's Metal and Sins & Needles covers, but these aren't really doing it for me.

23. Very much so! Plus, it's just a crazy face. BORING.

26. This photo has been photoshopped within an inch of its life.

28. Hmmm, yeah, I'm not a huge fan of vertical text most of the time.

33. Not that I know of... I thought that was odd too.

39. Oh man! I hadn't noticed the creepy gargoyle faces. Cool!

41. Yeah, the yellow words are NOT working.

45. They didn't choose a great format for them at all.

51. True. But it is pretty.

55. It scares me!

4. The new one certainly doesn't work.

6. Yup. Very unfortunate.

2. While that's kind of a cool idea...FUCKING 10 PARTS. I want to Hulk smash everything.

Bahahaha, yeah, these posts are lonnnnngggg. It takes way longer to put together than to read, though. Take comfort in that.

3. Sure are. They're furry or something.

6. Uhhhh, I don't know. It's probably from whatever culture uses this. *shrugs*

8. At least there haven't been as many butterfly covers recently.

11. Sho 'nuff.

21. Me too. There are always things I could criticize, but that would be missing the point, since they're that way on purpose. They're being funny!

27. Good observation. Fangs would make that less ridiculous.

50. Yup. I had to read the book description to figure out that they weren't Neil Gaiman short stories selected by Neil Gaiman, which could also happen.

54, Yup. Too much blood spatter would kill it. But she's the classy sort, so she'd be careful not to get too much blood on her hands/face.

55. *shudders at cover again*

Hmmm, I'd noticed the sharp ends, but I thought that was just to show that her veins were making the font. From the description, that doesn't seem to be the case, but it could be.

1. GRUMPY CAT!!!

16. I love the vintage cover.

19. I love this cover too, I just love bird covers hahahahaha.

25. I am surprised you like this cover, LOOK AT THE SECRET BIRDS IN THE MIRROR you hate bird covers hahahaha.

43. Again, I actually really like this one. It kind of reminds me of that one Chuck Palaniuck book -- Invisible Monsters from back when I used to be pretentious.

50. Honestly, I'd buy that anthology on cover alone. I love the typography.

I'll admit, I also like the new Seraphina cover, but I liked the old one too, so there's that.

1. :)

25. I don't hate bird covers actually. I just think it's ridiculous how many fantasy novels have birds on them. Since I'd never noticed, I now like to point them out.

43.. Oooh, I see that. I like Chuck Palahniuk. *is pretentious*

50. Oh, I love it too.

Hmmm. I think the new one's way off, but oh well.

19. I think they included the syringe because of diabetes in the title, injecting insulin and all. Luckily my fiance has a pump and doesn't have to use needles anymore :/

21. LOVE this new cover! Matches nicely with E&E, which I'm reading right now and is hilarious.

25. The mirror looks awesome; this cover made me click on the book when I first saw it and I'm interested to check out the series. I actually like the tagline too haha.

28. You're right, it's the model's expression. I'd like this cover a lot more if she had a different face. I think the colors and light also remind me of the Clockwork Princess cover.

34. This cover creeps me out for some reason, but the book sounds intriguing!

51. It's gorgeous but a bit boring; not sure I would pick it up.

Cover Battle 4. I've been disappointed with most of the covers for this series; my favorite is still the original cover for Gilt, wish they stuck with that theme! The new Tarnish one is better that the first I think, but I'm not a fan of either. Good thing the books themselves are good.

Cover Battle 6. I usually love purple, and purple and green can look good ala Half-Blood Prince, but I agree- the original cover is much more appealing and unique.

19. Ohhhh, that makes sense. But I don't have to like it. *shudders*

21. I think I like this one a bit better even. I always have been a sucker for blue!

25. I don't like the tag line actually. You should check them out. I read the first one, Sisters Red, and it was a lot of fun.

28. Ooooh, it is like Clockwork Princess. *scrubs eyeballs*

34. Maybe it's the way your eyes don't know where to look. There's no central focal point, really.

51. I probably wouldn't either. It doesn't give me a sense of genre or anything.

4. All I know is that, to me, this new one is the worst attempt at a cover for this series imo.

6. Very much so. I also think the original looks more mature, due to the staid color palette.

"Oh, it's new adult." YES! That explains everything about every "NA" cover ever. I love the concept of a new genre/classification emerging, but if they continue to just be sexed-up YA, I shall be disappointed. (Also, they need way better covers.)

February 7, 2013 at 3:09 PM

Yes to both of those things. Right now, I hate new adult. The only way they can get me to like it is to make it legit. Diversification is a must. And stop having trashy covers.

2. Doesn't the swan look weird? Too much dark shading on its head. ):
5. Seriously? (Not going to comment on the left guy's body.)
8. I like the hourglass.
13. The bird looks REALLY photoshopped in.
21. I love it! That shade of blue + her pose and expression... :D
22. Really disappointed with this one. It's so colorless & bloody! Her pose is awkward too.
23. One guy is bigger than the other. Oh dear.
25. I actually like this one. I might actually buy this so I can stare at the cover all day.
29. WHAT.
31. What's with the guy's eye?
32. The yellow colored font just doesn't fit in with the cover. ):
33. I love her pose.
53. His mouth, nose, and eyes looks really weird. -shivers-
WTF of the Week:
2. Yes, I totally agree with you on the title. They couldn't make up a better one? Really? Also, too much blue vapors covering up the lovely city scenery.

Hi, Christina!

3.- Haha, Mini-wings ^^ Does he have a huge car?

5.- I'm thinking "Everybody's Lady" :S

19.- I didn't notice the syringe... creepy.

20. Big wings. Is that good news? xD

29. dlaskfhadsbjkf? New adult, let's get naked!

30. Is that the Hush, Hush font? She's so "Do you like my hat? Yeah, well... You'll love my knife, too"

31. xD We are HOT. We are FURIOUS. We are DANGEORUS. We love purple mist.

38. Big wings, big boobs, big sword.

43. Love it.

54. My favorite.

1. I like this cover a lot after seeing some of the covers I saw last week. *shudders*

2. I want that chair. Well, not that chair because it probably has swan shit all over it, but you get what I mean.

5. I'm assuming that would be Arthur, Guinevere, and Lancelot. *bleaches eyes*

6. Spectacularly boring. *yawns*

8. Me!

15. This cover just made my mouth hurt. (I suppose it's conditioning from watching an episode of Maury Povich where I girl pulled a razor blade out from under her tongue. I'm scarred for life.)

21. I'll take the dress and the wallpaper.

25. HELL FREAKIN' YES!!! I have been waiting FOREVER for a retelling of The Snow Queen! *happy dances* I think I may to have to do dirty things to get Little, Brown to send me an ARC.

28. Hmm, it had a different cover when I got the e-ARC. I think I like it. I know I like the tagline.

31. WTF is on her face?!

32. Is that the same girl from the indie (or bad cover) sci-fi series with the blue stuff? I can't think of the damn title. *scratches head* Do you know what I'm talking about?

37. He's got weird eyes, but I'll take him.

39. I think I hate CGI on book covers.

44. I can barely read the damn title. *thumps eyes*

52. I think some writers did this on One Life to Live when I was a kid!

54. I'm buying it.

55. And I already pre-ordered this ages ago. (If I didn't, I meant to.) I buy this series as shelf candy.

CB4. Can we get one that looks like the HB Guilt?

CB6. I love purple, but not for this. That's just silly.

WTF3. Is that Sanjaya Malakar!?!

OMG, this made me laugh so much, and then at the end I got this awesome surprise. Thank you so much! The "Marie" cover is all the brainchild of the amazing designers at Scholastic and I love it, too.

LMAO about the men with tiny wings... and the amnesia/anger problem... and the fantasy birds. Wait, doesn't everyone walk around surrounded by dramatic fantasy birds? Is that only me?

2. Honestly, I have no idea. I haven't seen swans in real life much.

5. I don't want to comment on any of their bodies.

8. It's a nice hourglass, but it doesn't save the cover from lameness imo.

13. Sure does.

22. Yeah, it seems like it should be pretty, but it's not working at all.

33. She looks so casual, rather than doing one of those sexy crouches so popular on UF and PNR books.

2. There's city scenery? *squints*

Hi Liz,

3. In fact he does. Mini though they may be, they do take up some extra space, so a roomy vehicle is a must!

5. Bahaha, probably so.

19. Right? I was like this is so cute. AHHHHHHH! Needle, why?

29. And dive into a swimming pool bed!

30. I doubt it. It's some standard font that gets used too much!

31. Purple mist is the best mist.

38. Big boobs must make flying more of a challenge, right?

54. Mine too!

1. Yeah, last week was not a good show. There were several great ones this time.

2. YOU MUST HAVE THE GOOSE POOP CHAIR.

5. Pass the eye bleach, please!

15. Ew, ew, ew,. I can't.

21. I want the wallpaper a lot.

25. I LOVE the Snow Queen. Growing up, I had this ridiculous animated movie of it and I LOVED it.

31. I don't know.

32. Oh, it might be. *shrugs*

44. Thumping them probably won't help.

54. You and your pre-orders. Only this wasn't on Amazon yet before.

55. *shudders* I can't look at that cover.

CB4. For reals.

CB6. Right? UGH. At least I already have it.

WTF3. WHO? I assume it's the actor who played Jesus in the miniseries.

I'm so glad you enjoyed it! The designers did such an amazing job. I think it strikes just the right note!

Maybe it's just you. Instead I go for a cat contingent. You know.

Thanks for stopping by!

1. Agree. I like it but it doesn't have the same impact her other cover does.

2. Freaking love this. Incidentally, I photographed some black swans today. Very cool. Love the colors here.

4. So do I, surprisingly. I am not a fan of most romance covers but I really dig the colors here. Did I just say dig?

6. After the last cover, I'm thinking 'Bone Season' means something else.

7. No. Spiderman kisses are not at all that common.

8. Yeah, they are lame and boring.

12. I like it but I agree with you. The first is still my favorite. Also, is this one illustrated instead of a photo? It kind of looks like that to me.

16. Yeah, I love it too!

18. OMG. Another crappy title font treatment. Yech.

21. I love these covers too.

22. Aww, really? I actually really like this. Too bad the first book was fucking terrible.

26. More crappy colored eyes. WHY?

27. Nope, not sexy to me. At all.

28. Yeah, I saw that this week. It's totally not what I expected from this cover and it's not appealing to me at all.

29. WHAT IN THE HELL IS THIS?

30. Yeah because the 'l' looks like an 'i'.

32. Wow, that's not a self pub. It looks like one.

38.It's like they worked every supernatural element into this one. Wings, gate, spider webs, LOL.

39. This is just very boring to me. The hand looks plastic.

41. I just don't like that her lips look like they are bleeding. Are they supposed to be?

42. This is my favorite of the week so far. It just works for me. Though the the lock could be done better, you are right.

44. It's just a stock photo that looks like it has nothing to do with the title. Boring.

47. WOW. That looks like a blatant ripoff of Monument 14. Sad.

48. LOL. I agree. Ewww.

50. Deceptive marketing tactics.

51. You're weird. I don't like this at all. Boring. :D

53. He's a little below her boob, but still. AWKWARD.

54. I like this one a lot too. Candidate for favorite of the week.

The original Seraphina cover looks so much better. OMG.

Yeah, I'm going with the Marie Antoinette cover as well. Pretty unimpressive week.

2. Oooh, black swans! I want to see!

4. Bahahaha, you totally got that from me. YOU. ARE. WELCOME.

6. *flails with laughter*

7. I totally think of them as Spiderman kisses. That scene drives me crazy, because I would have ripped the mask right off.

12. I don't know. I'm really bad at telling such things.

22. I've heard to steer clear of this series. *steers*

28. There should have been a real falconer on it!

39. Like it's from Madame Tussaud's.

41. I don't think so. Lip gloss?

I liked a lot of them this week. *shrug*

I missed out on the Gretchen McNeil. Must have been one of the busy school months, heh.

3. He must need the furriness to cushion his crash landings.

4. Unfortunately Scarlet won't be arriving for another 2 weeks (or more) :/

13. Yeah, just too dark. I think Karina designed Devil's Metal cover herself! There was no cover artist credited. She's one cool lady! :D

2. Moooreee mooneeeeh.

3. Because he can't fly very well, because his wings are tiny. Makes perfect sense.

4. Awwwwww! Well, there's something to be said for anticipation, I guess.

13. No, she has a cover artist. I'm pretty sure it's the same one who's done all of her covers.

2. GRRRR.
