15 Day Book Blogger Challenge, Day 2: Bedtime Reading Ritual

Okay, so I'm late boarding this train, but I want to be part of the fun too. I asked on Twitter for buddies, so that I wouldn't be alone in taking this epic journey. Thankfully, bloggers are awesome people, so I quickly found three friends to travel with me through the book blogger challenge: Lili of Lili's Reflections, Mickey of I'm a Book Shark and Jessie of Ageless Pages Reviews, so make sure you check out their responses too! We'll be doing one challenge a week every Friday for fifteen weeks. For more information on the challenge itself, go visit Good Books and Good Wine's explanation post here.

For week two of the book blogger challenge, we're sharing our bedtime reading rituals. Mine varies only slightly. I usually don't do much reading in bed before I go to sleep, because I stay up on the couch until it's seriously sleeping time except on rare occasions, though I might sneak another chapter of my book.

However, I do listen to my current audiobook every night as I get ready for bed. It's pretty great, because I can read while I'm brushing my teeth and washing my face. I can be reading ALL OF THE TIME. It's the dream, basically. Usually, I can't finish a chapter for bed because they are sometimes quite long, but I pick up where I left off in the morning.

Unfortunately, I am not the kind of evil that doesn't sleep, so, much as I love reading, I try not to let it impact my sleeping schedule too much.

LOTR's GIF for the win. Seriously awesome. Kinda makes me want to watch the movies again right now. But anyway I have a specific reading ritual. I have water and crackers by me and whenever I stop reading the page (or percent if I'm on my Kindle) has to be divisible by 5. If it's not, then I have to keep readind until it is.

That's a fun system, though if a chapter never ends on a multiple of 5, you could be up all night!

I really have to get into audiobooks :/ I feel like those would be great! I can't imagine the chapters being that long though? Sometimes it's super easy to breeze through written chapters.

I am not into audiobooks either but love the idea of walking around listening to them while teeth brushing, etc. BRILLS.

Depends on the book. Remember that it takes a longer time to read a book aloud than to read it! The one I'm listening to now has chapters that are about a half hour long. A James Patterson novel would probably be about five minutes a chapter.

It's totally the best idea I ever had.

Audiobooks are great for squeezing in reading time when it wouldn't normally be possible. I listen to audiobooks when I do laundry and cook dinner... productive and yet still reading! It's amazing.

Me too! Audiobooks are the only way I ever get any chores done basically.

Yeah that is true and that has definitely been an issue several times.

I have my kindle on my nightstand. Its usually put to sleep when I go to bed. What my night time reading usually consists of is any hard copy book I'm reading. My kindle is portable. I use that for daytime reading and tuck it in my purse for reading on the go. I find I make the most progress on my hard copy books at night right before I fall asleep, even if I only get through a chapter or so each night. It sure helps me sleep better. As for audiobooks, I can't imagine falling asleep to one. I think I'd have trouble paying attention. It sounds like you use yours though before you actually crawl into bed. I use my audiobooks when I do chores around the house, sounds like you do the same thing!

I'm with you. I don't let reading make me lose sleep usually. Only if I can sleep in the next day will I read later at night. ;o)

Ahahaa, love that gif more every time I see it. I've never read/listened to an audiobook, but you present a compelling reason I should. Reading all the time, indeed. Most reading rituals seem to be relaxed, and yours sounds interesting. Maybe I will eventually buy an audio and try this out :D

One does not simply stop reading! I'm not much of a nighttime reader either, preferring lazy weekend afternoons for most of my reading. I like to keep my bed for its intended purpose of sleeping and do my reading on the couch.
