Everyone, I am running behind in Dystopian August, so I'm being lazy with my book haul this week, which means that I'm not bothering with cover images for my book haul. Maybe I'll add them later. For now, I MUST READ.

I also loved Ghost Flower, but not as much as Rosebush by the same author. Michelle Jaffe is full of awesome.

Yeah, the pose on the cover is not my favorite. Look at the happy side of the book instead of the cover. Thankfully, since I have a personal instead of library copy, I will be removing the dust jacket when I read.; August 13, 2012 at 7:44 AM

Lilian said...: I don't know what Alanta is known for. The only thing I know about it comes from The New Housewives of Atlanta tv show on Bravo. And I just know that show is packed with black people, therefore Atlanta must have a lot of gangs! *flawed logic*

*stares* NOOOOOOOO. Not even frappuccinos?

I never remove dust jackets, I am scared that I will lose them somehow. And I love showing off my books with their titles nice and gigantic. "LOOK AT MY AWESOME NEW READ, EVERYONE!"

Refreshing is not the word I would use.

Page length is of limited worth in judging the length of a book. I mean, Divergent was like 450 pages, but if printed like an average adult book would have been 250. Stormdancer was 330 or something, but if it had been printed normally would have been 600+. *shrug*; August 15, 2012 at 8:21 AM

Bitter, maybe? It's not thirst-quenching exactly.

The font wasn't huge, but it wasn't absurdly small. However, it was larger than regular trade paperback size and had pretty small margins.; August 16, 2012 at 4:17 PM

Too bad Penguin doesn't like to send bloggers ARCs. I almost always get finished copies, which is nice on the one hand, but I really like trade paperback format.

Lilian said...: Yes, I had the GIGANTIC hardback edition. I think Shadow and Night is about the same size (plus a prettier cover).
Now that I think of it, I think I only received one Penguin ARC (though I'm not the one to contact publishers). I'm a bit saddened that the ARC they sent was bent. *sigh*

I like paperbacks because they are easier to carry around and to make room for n a bookshelf. But not the mass-market paperbacks with the spines getting creased way too easily.
Yesterday I bought a paperback from the library for 50 cents because the book looked new (the spine looked so smooth.) Little did I know when I opened the book to check it that I made two creases in the spine. I swear my heart died a bit. *cries*

Christina said...: Actually, Penguin contacted me, which was pretty cool. I did try to beg their children's group for an ARC once, but they didn't respond. Sigh. I think I've gotten one ARC in all of this time. I think they only use those for long-range reviews and trade shows.

Right? They're so much easier to hold. They do get damaged more easily, but I still like them better.

OMG, that's so sad! Creases are sad things!

Lilian said...: I always get too wimpy to contact publishers. And I don't feel I should either because I hate having the obligation to read/review with a deadline. I very much prefer reading/type reviews at my own pace. ARCs are WONDERFUL and I feel hipster, but I think its only right that they go to people who have time for them and can give the most buzz (so not me.) I am still jelly to see people with ARCs of hot new books. Times like those that make me want to hold the bigwigs at Penguin or Simon & Schuster hostage to get those ARCS. *evil moment*

On top of my college exams, I don't want that extra stress. Which is why I am hesitant for blog tours too. I leave all of the review copies/blog tours for summer/winter breaks.
If only I won a 300mil lottery an could afford not to work and read all day.

I HAVE SCHOOL TOMORRROOOWWWW. *whine whine whine*

IS THERE A WAY TO FIX CREASES? OR TO PREVENT THEM? Should I table the spine or something? TT_TT Now every time I pick up the book I'm going to feel guilty.; August 19, 2012 at 4:07 PM

I am a librarian in my twenties. I got my MLIS at the University of Pittsburgh in 2010, and, through the vagaries of the job market, ended up working at a software company, rather than a librarian. I still very much consider myself to be a librarian, though.
