The Sky is Everywhere is my favorite book of the year so far, I just cannot speak highly enough about it. I hope you get the chance to read it soon Christina!

KEEP BEING SLIGHTLY BEHIND, SO YOU CAN EXPLORE THIS THING CALLED "LIFE." I heard they have dolphins and rainbows there.

My dad's birthday is this month too. I think I'm just going to give me a hug, because my hugs are priceless....j/k j/k. I think I'll buy him Starbucks ice cream. He detests coffee, but he loves Starbucks coffee ice cream.

Ah! A Midsummer's Nightmare! I saw it at the library, and I've been meaning to read on of Kody's works. I think it was the cover that scared me. Seriously, that chick looks like she's mad at me or something. *wimpers*

The Sky is Everywhere is something like the best book I've ever read. It's freaking beautiful, read it soon!

I also loved Ghost Flower, but not as much as Rosebush by the same author. Michelle Jaffe is full of awesome.

I read a library copy of Grave Mercy (cause I missed the NetGalley window wahhhh) but there's nothing like having your VERY OWN pretty copy!

Maybe in Hawaii. Atlanta is not well-known for dolphins.

That's odd. I hate coffee, and all things that taste of coffee. Blergh.

Yeah, the pose on the cover is not my favorite. Look at the happy side of the book instead of the cover. Thankfully, since I have a personal instead of library copy, I will be removing the dust jacket when I read.

Wow, now that's an endorsement! The best book you've ever read? Holy crap!

I'd never heard of Michele Jaffe. *makes note of Rosebush*

Right? I knew I had to own it. So many NG things go on my purchase pile, but I don't buy new books very often.

I don't know what Alanta is known for. The only thing I know about it comes from The New Housewives of Atlanta tv show on Bravo. And I just know that show is packed with black people, therefore Atlanta must have a lot of gangs! *flawed logic*

*stares* NOOOOOOOO. Not even frappuccinos?

I never remove dust jackets, I am scared that I will lose them somehow. And I love showing off my books with their titles nice and gigantic. "LOOK AT MY AWESOME NEW READ, EVERYONE!"
I crave book attention.

Well, there are a lot of black people in Atlanta, but there are also a lot of white people, Asians, Indians, Mexicans and pretty much any kind of people you can think of. There are gangs also, but I live in the burbs. Mostly, there are tons of Asians in my area. I just need to figure out how to infiltrate their network.

NOPE. COFFEE TASTES LIKE GROSS.

The flapping of the dust jacket irritates me. I think I've only lost one, but that was for my parents' book, so meh. *is the worst* I've also accidentally flattened a couple.

Look for a sushi shop. Or 99cent shops. *disappears like a ninja before anyone catches me leaking precious, top-secret info* dun dun duunnn...
Well here in Hawaii we are like 80% Asian.

WHAT?!?!? YOU WEIRDO. YOU ARE NOT FIT TO BE AMERICAN.

I use the dust jacket as a bookmark often. But I do know what you mean. I hate it when it starts slipping.

BUT THEY STILL DON'T WANT TO BE FRIENDS WITH ME. *sighs* Why do so many Asians only want to hang out with other Asians? (Because you're all so adorable. SHARE IT!)

Thank you for the compliment. I also hate hamburgers and Budweiser.

PURPOSELY DESTROYING DUST JACKET! Sacre bleu!

August 13, 2012 at 9:58 AM
Blogger Lilian said...

No, it's because you don't speak our language! We love to flaunt out fancy Asian languages by blabbing them all they long and make everyone else feel like we are talking bad about them. And we make too many jokes about Americans.
And actually, we like hanging out with at least one white friend. Guess who will be footing the restaurant bill? *wink*

I love hamburgers. Not beer though. I stole a sip from my dad on the plane when I was nine, hated it.

IT'S CALLED BEING RESOURCEFUL. THE DUST JACKET DOESN'T MIND. IT DOESN'T GET CREASED OR AN"YTHING! YOU WOULDN'T EVEN KNOW!

Blogger Christina said...

I JUDGE AMERICANS TOO! LOVE ME, HOT ASIANS!

*puts finger on nose* Not it!

Beer is an 'acquired taste.' Some days I like it and some I don't. *shrug*

You must only read thin books. That would be tricky with Pillars of the Earth or something.

No time for pictures but time for a vlog? ;-) Priorities!

I've ummed and ahhed over The Sky is Everywhere for so long, I'm relying on you to tell me whether it's worthwhile or not!

Yeah, well. Wouldn't want to deprive people of my beauteous face. :-p

Will let you know...when I get there. I've heard good things about it for sure, though.

You must be a traitor!

Well then, I guess we have no use for you in the Asian party! hmph.
But really, I don't even hang out with white friends. Even the ones who look white are all half-Asian. That's Hawaii for you.

Beer looks really refreshing on TV.

I don't do it often. In fact, I only did it once with a 360 page book (which for you is probably a children's book) in the thirty page mark. SO STOP JUDGING MEEEEE. And yes, I read thin books. "If I don't like this atrocity, I can still finish it!"

Blogger Christina said...

I MUST COME TO THIS HAWAII.

Refreshing is not the word I would use.

Page length is of limited worth in judging the length of a book. I mean, Divergent was like 450 pages, but if printed like an average adult book would have been 250. Stormdancer was 330 or something, but if it had been printed normally would have been 600+. *shrug*

YESH YOU SHOULD!!!!

...What would be a better term?

"Stormdancer was 330 or something, but if it had been printed normally would have been 600+. "
ARE YOU KIDDIN ME? Was that text super duper tiny like a lot of indie books are because the authors want to save money on paper but don't want to condense their work?

Blogger Christina said...

WHY I NO HAVE TIME AND/OR MONEY?

Bitter, maybe? It's not thirst-quenching exactly.

The font wasn't huge, but it wasn't absurdly small. However, it was larger than regular trade paperback size and had pretty small margins.

GET THAT PRIVATE JET! OR...BUILD A RAFT WITH COCONUTS. or ride a dolphin!

OH. They always make it so look ice cold on TV.

The only time small text REALLY bothered me was in A Discovery of Witches. That book was too heavy to hold comfortably!

Did you have a hardback? I had a paperback for that one, so it wasn't too bad. Hardback for Shadow of night, though. Massive monster of a book, that one. Too bad Penguin doesn't like to send bloggers ARCs. I almost always get finished copies, which is nice on the one hand, but I really like trade paperback format.

There are no coconuts here!

August 17, 2012 at 8:02 AM
Blogger Lilian said...

Yes, I had the GIGANTIC hardback edition. I think Shadow and Night is about the same size (plus a prettier cover).
Now that I think of it, I think I only received one Penguin ARC (though I'm not the one to contact publishers). I'm a bit saddened that the ARC they sent was bent. *sigh*

I like paperbacks because they are easier to carry around and to make room for n a bookshelf. But not the mass-market paperbacks with the spines getting creased way too easily.
Yesterday I bought a paperback from the library for 50 cents because the book looked new (the spine looked so smooth.) Little did I know when I opened the book to check it that I made two creases in the spine. I swear my heart died a bit. *cries*

RIDICULOUS. HOW IS IT POSSIBLE NOT TO HAVE COCONUTS?!?

August 18, 2012 at 8:18 AM
Blogger Christina said...

Actually, Penguin contacted me, which was pretty cool. I did try to beg their children's group for an ARC once, but they didn't respond. Sigh. I think I've gotten one ARC in all of this time. I think they only use those for long-range reviews and trade shows.

Right? They're so much easier to hold. They do get damaged more easily, but I still like them better.

OMG, that's so sad! Creases are sad things!

THERE MIGHT BE SOME IN SOUTHERN GEORGIA?

I always get too wimpy to contact publishers. And I don't feel I should either because I hate having the obligation to read/review with a deadline. I very much prefer reading/type reviews at my own pace. ARCs are WONDERFUL and I feel hipster, but I think its only right that they go to people who have time for them and can give the most buzz (so not me.) I am still jelly to see people with ARCs of hot new books. Times like those that make me want to hold the bigwigs at Penguin or Simon & Schuster hostage to get those ARCS. *evil moment*

On top of my college exams, I don't want that extra stress. Which is why I am hesitant for blog tours too. I leave all of the review copies/blog tours for summer/winter breaks.
If only I won a 300mil lottery an could afford not to work and read all day.

I HAVE SCHOOL TOMORRROOOWWWW. *whine whine whine*

IS THERE A WAY TO FIX CREASES? OR TO PREVENT THEM? Should I table the spine or something? TT_TT Now every time I pick up the book I'm going to feel guilty.
